sorry off topic. but it said bc now recognizes JDM vins? any truth to this? this is the first time i've heard of this.

yeah its true, I imported a pajero last month, and ICBC can now use the shorter VIN in their system, they just need to make a phone call to override the shorter alpha-numeric entry.

they can now classify them since they do have 2 valid vins on the vehicle, 1 on the firewall like the chassis stamp, and another on the VIN plaque in the engine bay.
