DIY - Ashtray Mod!

So i was eyeing my car's ashtray the other day, and thought...i don't smoke...all this thing is doing is holding some occasional coins and perhaps a chap stick every now and again.

Here's an idea to put it to better use!

I found there was enough clearance inside to add a plate and 3-4 illuminated switches.

(obviously i'm doing this when i should be doing homework)

The plate is 8.8cm by 4cm. Switches are spaced at 1.3cm. (these are just calculated values, some tweaking is required to get what you want)

I just used some pressed acrylic($4 at home depot), switches from crappy tire, and a dremel mock it up. Doesn't look too bad! Final version will likely be painted it black.








The door opens and closes fine, and there's a convenient square of glass that can be popped off on the side to feed your wires, so no cutting is required! I'm currently looking for a 5-pin connector so i can just detach one thing when i need to get it out. (probably snip it off of an old wiring harness at the junk yard)

I don't actually have 3 things that need switches right now...but here's some ideas...

-E-fan
-RWD mode
-Intercooler water sprayer
-push button start
-Disco ball
-Gaydar
-Oil Slick

Only problem i see with that would be some nub in the passenger seat being all
durrrr what does this switch do *flick*
