Insuring a Skyline

How old are you and do you have any claims or speeding tickets on record? 1900$ is a rip off imo. I live in Quebec and I pay 650 a year fully insured with fire/theft/vandalism.Originally posted by rati0 View PostJust wondering, im insuring my GTR they quoted me 1900$ for 2 way insurence in Quebec. After reading these post thoe...im guessing its a bargain !
But i have not told them its modified ( cat back, intake, suspension ) nothing serious, but now im debating weather to claim the mods, if they can just cancel my policy all together :|
anyone in quebec Insure there RHD?
Just have the car evaluated with whatever company you'll be using, this way they know everything that's on the car. Normal mods like cat back, intake and suspension shouldn't make any difference, since these aren't generally considered performance enhancing parts (not like bigger turbos or NOS).

from what I gather, its just Ontarians that get severely screwed when trying to register RHDs, as well as insure them. Location is it. on my own, 19yrs old, spotless record, with a 22 year old 4banger AUTO ACCORD SEDAN (of course, the most ideal when looking to street race and do some danger to your manifold) valued at $1500, my policy is $3700 a year...for LIABILITY only. Ive seen faster lawn mowers..but anyways, thats life. I cant even begin to imagine what I'll do for the skyline when I can get one on the road, I'd like to have SOME coverage incase some morons decide to pull something stupid (theft/vandalism/stealing a gtr badge -.-(not that id file a claim for that, but still)).Last edited by Oakville; 05-04-2011, 01:35 AM.

i have no idea why people seem to have so much trouble insuring these cars, I've had a '94 Subaru GC8 and now my R32 insured very easily, no questions asked and did it all over the phone... then again i'm in Alberta... the more i read these threads about you Ontario guys the more i feel for you...

This is very true. When one of my roommates in university changed his address from Toronto to Waterloo his premium was cut in half, same driving record, same insurance company, just different address. We just get the shaft on insurance in the GTA.Originally posted by Oakville View Postits not the insurance company, its your address.
using an insurance company in an urban area will have lower rates, because they have huge numbers of policies that they collect huge coin off of. where as smaller brokers have less customers, so they may have higher rates to make up for it.
so the key is, using a broker in a larger area, and live in a rural area. lol

It also has alot to do with your driving record. if your squeaky clean, you pay next to nothing but even one ticket can kill your rates. When I signed with my insurance company I had 2 tickets and was paying like 210 a month for a cavalier!! And when my policy renewed one ticket was abolished and my insurance went down to 150 (the longer you are with them helps a bit too) I'm guessing your record is just cleaner than your friends. This holds true for type of vehicle as far ad I know as well I have a friend who wanted a cbr 600rr but he had I think 4 or 5 tickets so they considered him high risk and wouldn't insure a bike for him at all. You really gotta shop around.

thats weird..cuz my insurance is through a company in Montreal..that seems like a pretty big city in my opinion..and dont say .."thats not the same as living ina big city" because i called an insruance company in Toronto for insurance on my 92 integra..and it was cheaper then in brcokville where im from..and thats who i was insured through..sooo..i can be used

trickey cannot be used as an example lol, at least for people living in urban areas.
If you live OUTSIDE a major city centre (Toronto, Ottawa-gatineau, London, KW, barrie), your rates will be significantly cheaper. BECAUSE of the smaller risk for collisions with other people.
a friend of mine an hour outside of the GTA pays sub-$500 a month for coverage...on 3 rhd cars combined.

Then your best bet is high risk insurance like Fidelity - I was paying 400 for that before I got insured elsewhere (Id share but not taking on RHD vehicles right now)

LOL YA! PM me if you wanna no..i dont want to publicly disclose that info..just because the more and more inquires they get about RHD they could be pursuied to drop RHD vehicles.

yeah im with you on that. my rates for the honda are now less than half than what it was before.Originally posted by NismoS-tune View PostA new corvette is more a month. Young is just expensive.
on a side note, my dad who used to pay something rediculous like sub $500 a year for complete coverage, stepped into rates roughly $450 a month with his e92, absolutely nothing changed, just the car. So yes, the car is a big factor too. But for what it is (a skyline), I dont think ontario rates justify the coverage/what you get in return.
