removal of cam cover breather pipes .

I want to fit some nice earls fittings to my cam covers but cant figure out how to remove the existing breather pipes without damaging anything.

Has anyone here done this ? and how did you do it without mangling anything that counts ?

ya ive seen it done. i think they just twist out not sure though. just painted mine. looks decent.

they just twist out. There was a member that used to sell AN fittings that just press in.

Grab a punch or whatever you ve got thats long enough and tap them out from the underside.

Cool thanks , i got them to twist but even that took a ton of effort , im a bit worried about punching them out , dont want to crack the covers .

Maybe ill try heating them up , looks like the pieces are made of steel. If i heat the cover at the base maybe it'll expand enough to let them pull out a bit easier.

Well after 2 hours of punching the inside of the fitting with a large piece of wooden dowel , heating it with a torch , twisting the crap out of it , used a brass drift that still wouldnt budge it , I used makeshift press with a bottle jack pressing up into the fitting while the cover was held by a quickly welded together metal frame on the floor. Unfortunately the jack slipped sideways and cam cover came flying out and hit me in balls so ill revist that theory tommorrow .

Update :- freeze the cam covers in a chest freezer , remove them after an hour , heat the aluminum around the base of the fitting , the aluminum absorbs heat faster than the steel , turn them upside down , a quick poke and they fall out . Key is the temp differential between the cover and the fitting

machined out and tapped for 3/4 npt , easy to buy earls or russel fittings for , i'll cover it in detail in by build thread next week when i have pics to post
