Ouch, well how would you all feel if an imported R34 in Canada was crushed?

This is shitty, feel terrible for the owner considering all the work he's put into it.

It would be amazing to see what kind of things the government could/would get done if they weren't putting so much effort, time and tax dollars into the alleged "illegal" imports.

lol this thread is um... lets just say full of comments thats arent very thought out. These cars are not alleged illegal. its black and white they are illegal federally they are not 25 years old. the guy broke the law multiple times and suffered the consequences.

Sean's blog entry will answer this for you:
How to buy an R34, R33, or R32 GTR. Skyline GT-R specifications, alignment, repairs, parts, and modifications

Basically the car was brought in before Motorex was even Motorex. It was brought in to be tested for legal importation by the entity that eventually became Motorex. Due to various circumstances, poor timing and some absent minds (Hiro did not run the place as well as he should have) the car sort of slipped through the cracks and never got the papers it needed to stay in the US. It was sold to a reputable buyer who in turn sold it to the guy that eventually would be in the centre of this mess.

Sean Morris (OG GTRCer Tyndago) tried to do what he can to save it for sentimental reasons but at the end of the day the feds would have nothing of it and it was crushed yesterday morning.

The owner of the car was wrong for what he did and took a huge gamble pouring money into something that was on the wrong side of the law. It could have turned out totally different if the car just had someone watching over it throughout its life in the US and had done the proper compliance work for it (which was simple to do).

I read about all that earlier but what I meant was. Because they past those tests the car was able to be imported bypassing the 25 year rule?

yes, imported but they still had to be modified before getting the approval. motorex went to **** because they stopped doing the necessary modifications I believe. I'm guessing this car had the modifications since it was obviously involved in the whole thing but it was just never fully complied with paperwork and other things.

Personally, I would ask myself "before I put in all this money, I should make sure that NOBODY IS GOING TO CRUSH THIS OR TAKE IT AWAY" and proceed to get it 100000% legal. I guess not being under their radar anymore made him think they wouldn't waste their time and resources to f*ck him over, he was wrong.

What an incredible car and a huge loss. To destroy this car is a crime in itself, those block heads in the American government couldn't find a better solution? I am completely disgusted by this....its best I don't say anymore.

jesus this thread is incredible. everyone take a step back and take "skylines" off the pedestal. They did not crush the car because they couldnt find a better solution. its called deterrence. something Canadians will never understand..... capital punishment ring any bells? everyone is acting like the govt went in took this car away from this enthusiast who was doing no wrong. its simple you break the law you get punished and made an example of so other people dont do the same. DETERRENCE

gtrjon, seriously the car came in legally, whether it was sold to him legally or not I couldn't car less, but if it was illegally in the state, why did the officer even talk to the guy, he could have just taken it.

The sale of the car as he was trying to sell it, was not legal, but is going on, almost on a daily basis. Here is the think, it is illegal to register this car at the federal level, but not illegal at the state level (in some States), say what ???? and this is the grey zone (well what I have gathered from snooping on the net). If your going to make something illegal at least try to be on the same page. Stuff like this just drive me nuts, the law says ignorance of the law is not a defense, but at the same time the government keeps implementing rules that make's it more and more overly complicated for the general public to understand.

Do I feel bad for the guy, yeah I do. Do I think he should have know better, of course. Do I think is car should have been destroyed this way, of course not. What if a young kid who would have worked really hard to come up with the money to buy this, would have had it taken away from his driveway a couple of month from now. And here is the thing AFTER he would have had it plated and insured. How is it his responsibility to know that this car was illegal, DMV let him plate it, the insurance company let him insure it. The law doesn't offer flexibility, but at the same time most of the time it's explained in the vaguest way humanly possible.

Obviously they made an example out of it, because of it's exposure in the car scene, but if they really wanted to do something about these situation then start synchronizing Federal laws with the States laws, if they could do this 90% of illegal cars driving in the state wouldn't be able to be plated, of course some would revin but that's a whole other issues.

Anyway, I'm seriously thinking that the State should be worrying about a lot more important things, and that if they can afford to deal with petty issues like this, well maybe just maybe they can afford to cut more jobs in those departments.
