Defiantly interesting stuff. I would say his 2530's must have been stuffed but it's impossible to say for sure. Either way, same or differnt, you can't go wrong with either.

SAU when I was hunting for turbos when I could get either for the same price.

Here's one of the links that had come to mind right away.
So I've recently replaced my old HKS 2530'S with the GARRETT 2860'S-5. I was instantly impressed with the low down power. I'm still trying to convert the speed into RPM to get a direct comparison. Because the shop that did the power run with the garrett's was a V8 place they didnt realise the RPM...

Of course, this is the internet. Only some of them had swapped the turbos only between dyno runs and other simply knew stuff.

In perspective, it took me over 2 hours to get the turbos out. Had all the right tools.

If you have all the right tools and equipment, it takes less time to pull the engine than take the turbos out.

Just out of curiousity how long does it take on average to yank the donk out of a R32 GTR provided you have all the right tools and equipment ?

Iv pulled enough small blocks out before and that's a pretty straight forward but havnt pulled my RB26 before.

Its really simple to pull the engine out.People under estimate the rb26 , like you said if you replace the rod bolts ,change the bearings and take care of the oil drive issue , the motor can take big power. But then again if you're going through the hassle of removing all the internals ,might aswell drop in some forged items...

ya... to put the crank collar on do u need to pull the engine? That leads to another question how hard do u guys find it pulling a rb? Ive heard fairly simple and ive heard haaard as hell lol! if im gonna yank the thing mise well just go balls out and do the whole oil pump, wether its just n1 or a greddy. any other suggestions? As you might have noticed im a NEWB with the gtrs...

You should be safe running stock bottom end but for what it's worth (and we all know what it's worth..) check your oil pump drive before putting everything back together. A good tune will mean nothing if you have no bottom end. It's definitely worth it to throw a $100 dollar collar in there while you're at it

ya my goal would be to eventually get to 600 wheel. Tell me if im totally stupid here but for this summer i want to get the turbos, required fuel system, run some meth, a very good protune and leave the stock internals for a year... maybe change the rod bolts to arp and the bearings as well... and keep it under 8rpm because i am pretty sure my car hasnt had the oil pump installed (who knows im still yet to get deep in to it should be later this week or next week, but its very fair to assume it hasnt been done!) Right now i have full 3.5 trust exhaust and down pipe, apexi intakes and got it boosted to 1 bar.

They're easy to find. -5s are a few bucks over $2000 and 2530s are for sale often. The 30s lag a bit more but make more power up top then the -5s.

    What's your power goal? 700ish?

They are laggy as hell on a 2.6 and shuffle really bad, dont do it. Even on a 2.8 they aren't great.

On a RB30 they are amazing. responsive and tons of power

I've been in gt-rs equiped 2.6's and they are terribly laggy. I drive a single turbo gtr with a 4088 that will flow as much as the gtrs's. It is much more responsive.

Not many people cause they're laggy on the rb26, they would probably be a better match for a 2.8 or 3.0 rb.

started a topic HKS GT-RS turbos

    HKS GT-RS turbos

Having troubles finding any threads on people using these turbos on the rb26. Is it a good set up because I dont see many people using them compared to the 2530's or 2860-5's. Thanks in advance!
