theres a big difference in wear between macpherson (S13) based coilovers, and multilink coilovers (R32)
there is a ton less wear on the head / pillow ball of the strut

like anything, it will last long with good maintenance

And guys lets be real honest here, within the last couple years, there has been so many re-branded suspension kits put on the market its not funny. Sure, the damper quality may be pretty good, but the rest is not top quality.
Yeah, the reason I asked was because I found out that they are Stance rebranded and I knew Stace are manufactured and assembled in South Korea. I bought used spare coilovers instead until i could've afforded a new set of Japanese brand coilovers like Yashio, URAS (lol pink) and KTS but D-max came out and were cheaper and could be sourced locally.

Those look like my kei office coilovers
Thanks for the pics too, they just reminded me of l got S13 suspension parts and the Kei Office front coilovers in my garage I need to get rid of. Im going to go check if they have grooves or warpage.

My personal belief on the pillow ball problem is based on feedback from customers and how they describe it. As I said 9/10 its the pillow ball rattling within the plate socket.

Here is good example of a really well used set off S13 coilovers with warn pillow balls. Literally grooves put into the ball section as seen.

With this set put back together, the camber plate moved around with out much resistance. On the road it would have been knocking like mad.

I think we all are missing the important part here.

They are knocking because the top pillow ball section is not high quality. Honestly, for any cheap suspension out there, the first thing to let go is the top pillow ball mount. Second, top neoprene o-ring seal gets ripped, then oil spits out. And on and on...

9/10 the ball mounted inside the sandwhich plate is not chromoly steel, just some cheap arse alloy that is probably not even round to begin with lol

You could try and tight the top nut down a bit, best done with suspension out of the car, but you are really only suppose to tighten a little, otherwise the top will bind up and wear out even quicker.

Tein SS (bottom grade) from years ago had this same trouble. I brought it up to a Tein official year or so at a trade show and they admitted there was indeed trouble years ago but the later equipment all corrected.

    thanks

    Great advice.
I rented my buddy's hoist today. Raised the front a bit. The back are the ones knocking. I tightened the springs a bit more.
still knocking. I am thinking upper link like Daryl said.

I'll have to order a set off you.

Do I need a press to install them?

Do you have a pix of the part your talking about.

I have stance coil overs which are basically HSD. One thing I will stress is that you raise the car up, removing weight of the coilover, and make sure the car isn't lowered by drooping the spring and that it is lowered by the bottom of the shock mount. By drooping the spring rate you are effectively saying goodbye to any performance so when you hit a bump the spring has much more movement that if you have it lowered by the base with a helper spring in-between.

    there should be no sound,
granted one should expect not the most controlled quality build for the price.
but i mean im sure you can take it a part and just put it back together better then from factory.
    coilovers are very simple.

No knocking on mine, most likely follow advice above. Sway bar end links can cause this problem even though they feel tight. I went through this with a Maxima and my wifes Escape.

I had HSD 12/10s and now I have 8/6s. Both sets knocked until I did what Daryl said.. Did both of them last year and no more knocks on bumps!

What Daryl said, sounds like your FUCAs. Buddy of mine has really stiff coils and has replaced bushings or anything like that.

I think the stiff coils didn't make it any easyier on the car or fucas/ rest of suspension.

Is the ride stiff? Have you checked for any rubbing? I recall a similar noise from my suspension and I just adjusted the dampers.
