Excuse me if this may seem like a dumb question.

But why switch to this tranny?

Yup, Borg Warner T56, same trans as the Corvette and Viper. Has no problem with high HP/TQ figures after some minor upgrades.

^lol. I guess many people don't know what these are. Think a bout it this way, a high displacement v8 or even a 10 in front of this transmission you gotta be able to put that to the ground. I have to say these transmissions are monstrous

Actually T56's break all the ******* time.

Start hanging around with domestic owners and you'll find out.

                    BUT

They're cheap and easy to upgrade, can get parts for them anywhere, and once you do the upgrades, they work real good.

You'll want a Viper T56 - or at least a viper rear case, because it has a remote shifter and can be easily adapted to fit the Tcase and have a shifter that sits in the right spot.

I made a giant thread about this a while back.

you can get a built T56 from G force for about 5 grand. Its cheaper then buying a gearset from ppg. I know a guy with about 4 viper 6spds but he won't let them go...I even have a TH400 setup aswell if anything is interested.

For sure something that would be nice to have. The shifter in the proper place with a 6 speed that will not break up on 4wd launch or grind from 3rd to 4th the rest of the time.

We ran a T56 with g-force internals in our Cobra R road race car for several years (520 hp at rear wheels) finally we broke the
5-6 countershaft (it was still the old two piece design stock one now there is a stronger one piece available), we replaced it with a Viper spec sequential I wont name the brand which grenaded the second time on track big$$$

You can use this plate to put a th350 between an RB and the transfer case. Th400 s have been done but they are too clunky and gobble up a lot of HP. A th350 or a powerglide can handle up to 800 lbft of torque and will consume at least 10% less than a 400.

T56s are only any good if you change up the overdrives to a .85ish and a .70ish. The stock .5 in 6th is way too tall for a small displacement engine, and you should never try and funnel full power through it, it's too hard on everything.

                              Jon.
