    This thread would not exist if you guys had the weather we had today. 14C and SUN.

    I'm a regular grunt who did calculus for extra credits and I know you don't need a $400 calculator to get through it. You should be able to do this in your head haha. The difference between me and an engineer is that I only did a few years of school and I get paid more than most engineers and I'm not special, just a grunt. Even though the engineers tell us how to do stuff and design them, we correct their mistakes cause real world application isn't perfect like on paper, in my field anyways.

    so its exactly how i described it; 48/2*(9+3) -> 48/2*12 -> 24*12 -> 288

    my 400$ calculcator will back me up on that

    no one is going to school me on calculus, i do this shiit all day, its all i ever do in engineering

    as far as i know
    48/2(9+3) = 48/2*12
    48/2*12 = 24*12
    24*12 = 288

    Haha out of every forum i've seen this on, you guys are being pretty tame and rightfully so. When in doubt Wolfram Alpha...because of the way the question was written, bedmass applies in a different way than you might think. The brackets in this case refer to 48 divided by 2, qauntity multiplied by the sum of 9 and 3.
    Input: (48/2)*(9+3)
    Output: 288

    @pocketkid
    Very clever haha

    Q. How can you tell if a mathematician is extroverted?

    A. He looks at your shoes instead of his during your conversation.

    some people forget that you can't do (48/2) *12 because there's no ( ). this is simple math and some people are trying to make it way much complicated than it is.

    Question was typed out just fine. The graph speaks for its self :P

    Not flaming here but BEDMAS means Brackets first but only what is INSIDE the brackets. Since the number is next to the bracket, it means multiply to the number inside the bracket however, Divisions are before multiplication so 288 is the answer. This is not calculus friend.

    48 ÷ 2(9+3)

    = 48 ÷ 2(12)
    = 48 ÷ 24 [distributive properties are included in the 'B', or 'Brackets' of BEDMAS, so those must be done before division/multiplication]
    = 2

    You could also do it this way:

    48 ÷ 2(9+3)
    = 48 ÷ (18 + 6) [you can solve the bracket first, as above, or distribute the coefficient through the bracket first...it doesn't matter]
    = 48 ÷ (24)
    = 2

    Either way, the answer is definitely 2.

    Like think of the average job. When do you need to do questions like the one the OP asked. If you think about it. the Majority of jobs that people have. It uses simple math. Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division.

    Of course there are a lot of jobs out there that require more. Like fractions, decimals, exponents, angles, circumference.

    BUT THE MAJORITY DON'T

    Congratulations if you figured the answer out. Get your mom to give you a pat on the back. Cause that's all you deserve.

    If you didn't figure it out. Don't sweat it. Its not that big of deal.

    The nerve of the people on this forum. Calling people down cause they didn't answer a question correctly.

    Take a second...or two. And grow up
    lol dude i dont really know what your talking about. everyone is taking this pretty cool if you ask me. no one is flipping their **** if they get it wrong. i would say if anything your blowing this way out of proportion. the purpose of this thread is to make you take a step back and think for a second.
