  • Wheel studs too short??

    Hey guys,

I have a 1993 GTR and I just picked up a used set of wheels from another GTR owner. I was trying to get them installed today, but the wheel studs don't come far enough through the rim to get the nuts threaded. Is there any reason that wheel studs would be longer/shorter on different cars? I asked the guy I bought them from and he had them on his GTR without any modifications.

The wheels are Volk GTC 18x10 with a +23 offset.

    Any help would be great!

Shouldn't be, try looking at your current wheels to see how deep your lugholes are. From the bottom of the taper there should be about 1/4" of material to the face of the mounting flange of the wheel. If your new wheels are more like 3/4" then you have some HD type wheels with a thick flange. They even might be made for straight shank bolts and have no taper at all. If they have a standard taper then you are going to need some longer studs.

      Hey Kenji

still didn't get it to work? did you check about the center rings already? if the wheels arent centered on the hub it will be hard to get the bolts to catch. but as above poster said you should be able to see 4-5 threads of your stud exposed that the bolt can get on to... if not then your studs are not long enough. ill measure my studs from the hub tonight and post that up for you if that will help give you an idea if your studs are the right length or not...

or it actually might be they sold you the wrong lugs.

Thanks Neal that would be great! I'm thinking that the nuts might be part of the problem. I'm going to try a different set. If you could also take a pic of the nuts you are using and send it to me or post it that would also help a great deal!

        Thanks guys!!

The Volk GTC uses special lugs:

Volk GT-C Inverted Lug Nuts: Evasive Motorsports | PH: 626.336.3400 Mon-Fri, 9am-6pm PST

Gorilla make a set that is close to these and they called it ET/Ultra style:

Gorilla Automotive Products - Lug Nuts, Wheel Locks, Auto Security, Wheel Accessories:

The set number is 21723. I just purchased a set of BBS RS wheels from Yahoo Japan Auction and they use the same style of lugs as the Volk. I haven't check my local shops for these yet but I'm sure they will cost less then $123 Volk.

well i think Kenji got his lugs from wheels direct and he told them they were for volks when he bought the lugs off them so they should have gotten him the right ones? well anyways when i get home Kenji ill get that other info for you too.

                  Thanks Neal!

If those are the nuts I need then I didn't get the right ones. I did specifically ask for spline nuts though so he probably just figured I knew what I was talking about...even though I did ask if they would work with my specific rims and he said they would...either way the proper nuts look like tuners to me. Now that I have measurements I can see if they have anything in stock.

Thanks again for all the help guys!! I'll let you know how it works out.

Please do. These are not called spline nuts or turner lugs and If you goggle volk gtc lug you'll be amazed how many people get it wrong.

Good to know. Could you PM me the price so I can shop and compare from my local shops? I know they are about $40 US (list price) but US online store prices ranges from $32 to $55 and that doesn't include shipping.
