  • Quick release steering wheel with short hub Question

I recently purchased a NRG Quick release setup with a short hub. NRG did not make a specific hub for the R32 so next closest thing would be the 240.

Watching a tutorial someone put up on youtube I was already aware my horn may not work as well as a module for the HICAS may have to be removed.

Upon installation I did indeed need to remove a module that protruded where the hub has to bolt on. As well the hub that came in the kit has a slip disc on the back?

Anyways to my problem... I am the kinda guy who enjoys all the bits on my car to work proper and no horn on a already hot car is a red flag for the 5.0.

My question is if anyone had similar problems with aftermarket steering wheels? I know alot of you guys have them from the forums...

If momo makes a hub that works ect I will just sell my sweet ass NRG setup to one of my 240 buddies.

    Thanks alot

here is the wheel kit I got

Here is a kit installing it on his R32... skip half way through for he also shows how to unbox the kit haha fml

I'm also looking into getting a NRG qr. The NRG hub gets rid of the hicas module, but the horn should still be operable. I'm looking at getting the NRG qr with a HKB gtr specific hub, but it may stick out way too much.

I have the HKB+ NRG combo. It takes a little to get used to but even my "not too bi"g Asian hand can reach the signal switch with no problem.

I'm using a Daikei hicas with a short Ebay quick release. The short quick release looks like the NRG 400 hub but cost me $80 less, but your problem is that you won't be able to use the lock with this short release.

It looks like Work bell do make a short hub for the Skyline with Hicas (629S) and they also make quick releases and locks too.

I just bought a Nardi Deep Corn wheel ($295) and Works Bell 629S short hub ($157) from FRsport.com. I also ordered a NRG v2.5 quick release from TopSpeed Autosport for $140 shipped ($150 msrp before shipping). I looked around for a long time and these are the cheapest prices I could find. Great service and items were shipped out the next day from both vendors.

Should all be coming in next week, can't wait to install it and replace my old worn oem steering wheel.

I also am using the HKB hub with NRG 2.5QR, it's a bit of a reach between the wheel and the turn signal, but I actually enjoy the extra room. Both my horn and HICAS both function perfectly with that combo.

does your works bell work with hicas? RHD Japan told me it wont? I will remove my hicas but was not going o till next year... maybe more sooner than later if I cant get it to work with a a/m setup.

And yeah the NRG wheel I have is sick... as for the q/r I have never had another one before to compare so will take your word on that one lol

The 629S is for airbag equipped GT-Rs! Be careful when ordering, many shops don't know the proper application for R32s...

Here are the applicable part numbers from Works Bell Japan:

                      ASCD only R32: 612
                      Super HICAS R32: 616
                      ASCD & Super HICAS R32: 617
Optional airbag equipped R32: 629 (requires horn coupler modification, some wheels may require 625 depending on the shape of the wheel, please check pictures, also some airbag couplers may require a "u-turn" harness)

We are a retailer for Works Bell, so if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask!

Oh well that's not good at all! FRsport called me asking me if I was sure the 629S was the right hub. I wasn't entirely sure since my car has hicas, not super hicas, and no airbag. I figured I could use the 629 and just delete the airbag connection. Which is actually the right hub for me Daryl? HICAS, no airbag, and I have no idea if I have ASCD.

ASCD is cruise control. If you have a non-airbag, non-cruise control, HICAS equipped R32, then 616 is the hub you need.
You may be able to use the 629, but I can't confirm. You'd have to try it out and see first.
