I didnt wanna bring some old thread out of the dust so i thought i could make anew one, im thinking im gonna run my car on the drag strip soon and i wanna hear from some people that have knowlegde in this department, more or less how to launch? what gear your crossing the line in? tire pressure? and what not. also i hate to start this again but what ball park could i expect for a time with a good launch and run?
    i got
    25 turbo at 14 psi
    exhaust(turbo back)
    fmic
    intake
and some 225s in the back

ive heard of some 240s with rb20s running like mid to high 13s with this set up, but that seems very fast considering their mabe 300 pounds lighter

    thanks

i usually try and launch around 3-3500.

im sure you could break into the 13's. i ran a 14.9 with 3" exhaust, apexi powerflow filter weak fuel pump, 17" rims and stock boost on RB20 turbo.

post up when you do run what you get im kinda curious.

From my experience taking my car to the 1/4 mile.

        1. don't worry about reaction time. when the green light rolls, dont try to launch the car the split second it pops. Your pass time only starts when your wheels start to roll.

        2. build up a bit of boost and ease the clutch / gas in so your wheels dont spin but you get a steady launch.

        3. I always crossed the line at a high 4th gear shifting into 5th at the very end for the last surge.

Best i got on a stock rb20 w/ 15 psi (1bar) on the stock turbo was 14.8, I know I can do better and I'm going down next street legal track day for a few passes. I'm hoping next time to at least get into the lower 14s.

well my dad car runs high 14s to 15 flat, and i can kill it, so im hoping for that low 14 range and something in the 13s would make me very pleased, im un tuned but thinking of getting one of these shadybeavers chips if im really unpleased with my time

OR, you could just put in one of them "1000 horsepower" chips in it and do 10s!

i was working with shadybeaverguy to get my car tuned, no generic chip you will buy will be perfect on the car. Custom tune is the way to go. Shadybeaverguy got me damn close to running perfect then i played with it afterwords to dial it in just right.

his prices seem very good and i figure its worth a shot to see if it works. im well aware like you said its not prefect but if its better then my stock ecu im happy

this is what i got on my stock r33 with a good burnout and a great launch. which i think was around 3300 rpm

                    r/t... .815
                    60'...2.140
                    330'...6.139...
                    1/8....9.431
                    mph...74.25
                    1000..12.247
                    1/4....14.548
                    mph....96.98
I love the thing and its worth it every time I start it. As soon as it stops make me smile ill get rid of it (not gonna happen)

alright so i made it out to the track, and its safe to say i need some more practice, i dont think my time was matching my mph so i think i need a way better launch, but i was burning tires lots in 2nd and even into 3rd a bit but anywho heres that stats

                      60'...2.325
                      330...6.280
                      1/8...9.454
                      1/4...14.42
                      mph...99.84

i think with some better tires i could manage close to a high 13 if not a 14 flat

this was at 13psi falling off to 11 or so on the top end

Load car up against handbrake to lock drivetrain before launching. Helps to reduce stress on drivetrain (drivetrain moving coast to coast) and helps to reduce initial wheelspin.

Run a better BOV (doesn't leak boost above 10psi).

                        Tune ECU.

That should see you into high 13sec.

Auto 4 door with bigger turbo, intake, exhaust, ECU retune, street tyres, 189rwhp can run a flat 14sec 1/4. Car might have had BOV, suspension mods as well.

so your saying use the handbrake to hold the car back so that the clutch can be engaged some?

your probably a little closer to sea level as well down there, then us in alberta

Using handbrake and applying a bit of clutch locks the drivetrain so cogs in transmission, diffhead are locked together. If not locked together, can damage transmission, diffhead, halfshaft's, propshaft if cogs move from not locked to locked (coast to coast). It's called drivetrain shock.

Loading against handbrake is a commonly used technique in Japan, etc on GTR's, etc.

Here's an example of handbrake technique (13.1sec pass) -

From the outside (13.1sec pass) -

As you can see he gets a jump on the other car.

Also deflating rear tyres helps with grip. You need to experiment with tyre pressures. Too low is dangerous at high speeds, so be aware of it. Drop tyre pressures in small increments until you find a safe but maximum grip setting.

as far as tire pressure i was running about 22psi and it stayed pretty stable so maybe ill go a little more
