just an opinion here, r33 have super hicas which is an electrical rear steering rack so i dont see the fluid being a problem as there is no fluid back there, also do you have different size tires front to rear? i found out the hard way when i staggared mine the light will come on randomly (mostly longer drives) and act kinda funny in turns and another possibility is if the front wheels are seeming to get harder to turn you may have either a p/s pump that is not working correctly or your steering rack that may be binding or losing pressure to assist in turning. i cant really see your hicas affecting you front steering as its mostly just a plain hydraulic assist system but who knows..

If the fluid gets too low, it cuts your power steering and turns on the hicas light. you would think they wouldnt be integrated because of it being the super hicas but they are. Checked over everything i could think of. Everything looks fine. Hicas light finally went out, ran the hicas diagnostic, then ran ecu diagnostic as well and both are showing all good.

rims are staggered but issue was happening with stock rims as well. happens both cold and hot engine temps, cold and hot weather. pretty sure its electrical. maybe a sensor but honestly i am clueless. i have noticed it happens a lot when parked at lordco lol. parking lots is at slight side angle so i was thinking it might be related to the fluid and some sensor? not the biggest deal, just gets slightly annoying having random heavy steering

well the much anticipated issue is back. Fluid is for sure full.
Dropped car off at the shop yesterday to get exhaust manifold studs replaced, new gasket, new turbo to manifold gasket. picked it up today, drove about 30 mins, shut it off, came back out few minutes later and the light was on when i fired it up, heavy steering (can feel that the power steering is working, something is just stopping it and causing it to go heavy. Checked the wires in the back, checkd fluid (just over full now), called the shop to see if they touched anything to do with the power steering/hicas and they said no.

I find R33 like to do strange things with the HICAS light.. mine comes on and off right now.. i just ignore it.. however it did go strong arm steering one me last night for about 5 minutes.. it was odd. and i do have all the fluids i need.

Yeah mine is so random when it does it. but i went ahead and flushed out all the old fluid and put in some new ATF and taped the plug more securely to the hicas ecu. everything looks fine so i have no clue. it hasnt come on since i flushed the fluid tho.

light hasnt come on since i flushed the fluid but if it comes on again ill go figure out the diagnostics for it and see what the problem is. i think it might of been because it was a little low on fluid (was just below registering on the dip stick) after flushing i watched, when you start the car the level drops drastically so being even a little low seems like it could possibly cause issues. I moved the clamps out of the grooves to try and clamp a bit better as i did have a very very slow leak. might just replace the old lines.

checked everything. plug has a bit of movement but nothing that should cause this but i wrapped tape around to keep it nice and tight, also i checked fluid level again, seems i was wrong the first time and it was a little low so maybe that was the issue. took a month before the light came on again so i wont know for a while.

With the fluid being a little low would that cause the slightly hard steering while on the highway? or is that just because the hicas is active while at highway speeds? Havent took the car out since topping up.

You made sure your topped up with Ps fluid?

Yup checked it a few times. And didn't just look at reservoir, actually popped the lid and checked. I'm going to check all connections tomorrow and see if any are loose, fuses, anything obvious. If not I'll swap in a working Hicas ecu and see.. Anything else you can think it could be?

R33 doesn't use speedo cable, but no my speedo and everything works fine. Everything's normal. Just randomly doesn't work sometimes. Not sure how to check the sensor in her column or what else could cause the Hicas light to come on and power steering quit. I remember reading that if you remove the Hicas bulb it could cause this but the lights still there and working.

Edit: seems the Hicas ecu goes faulty often, I'll check my connections and see what I find, if everything seems fine I'll swap in another Hicas ecu and see what happens.

Side note does your speedio work?

I had a buddy have this problem, the car was going into safe mode because the cluster collor where the speedio connects was broken.

was having issues so flushed the p/s and problem was solved. Now after i go for a drive say 30 minutes and park for a few, when i start the car back up the hicas light will stay on and it will cut my power steering. power steering is working, you can feel it but something is stopping it from actually working causing it to have hard steering.

also not sure if this has anything to do with the issue but the last couple times it has done this has been right after about a 30 minutes drive (half of the drive on the highway) and then when i park it wont be on flat ground. sometimes just a minor angle, other times a steeper angle that it gets parked at.

so warm, and possibly parking on a hill is what is causing the issue but i can still feel that the pump is working, somethings just blocking it causing the heavy steering.
