    HID Replacement?

my GTR's got a Catz H.I.D. kit and I just realized I've got a headlight out.

I did a quick web search for a replacement bulb and I found a site that has them listed for roughly $400

    http://www.sigmaautomotive.com/lighting/catz.php

is this seriously the price for replacement bulbs or do I just suck at the interweb?

anyways, this is what I need...

can someone point me in the direction of some Catz replacement H.I.D. capsules?... otherwise I'm ripping these fukcin things out and replacing them with good old H1's.

prices vary by the colour temp. if you want a high colour temp they will be expensive, if you want a regular 4600K (the only colour HID bulbs should be) then they will be cheaper.
    what K are you after?

I have no idea what 'K' I'm after.... I was hoping someone would know by the pics above.

the ballasts have some part #'s and stuff, but no mention of xxxxK.... they're in a tight spot so I can't really get a good look.

The K they are reffering to is it' "Kelvin" temperature. 4600k HID's are white, where as 8000K HID's are blue.

You want to make sure the bulb is matched correctly of you might have one slightly whiteish blue headlight, and another totally white headlight...Check the bulb for any ratings. Look up any part numbers on it and see if that will tell you.

just grab a full kit off ebay. Its only about $120 - $140 for the whole kit. Otherwise, you could be able to use bulbs off ebay as well. They are around $60 - $80 for 2 bulbs. Then you can get whatever color you want.

A HID kit for $120? That must be a piece of garbage (no offense). Save yourself a headache and jsut get the proper repalcement. You already have the ignitors etc, so jsut get a replacement bulb.

the quality of the kits for sure may be questionable. I know I have one of them on my minivan and the lighting is 100X better than the stock bulbs.

I am not sure what makes one kit "better" than the other though. I know mine was made in china. But I suspect even the "name brand" kits are made in china as well, possibly at the same plant.

the debate about quality vs price has been going on for a long time now. ANd I am sure there would be no real way to come to any conclusions here.

I just wanted to make sure he knew there were other options out there.

The only thing those cheapy kits lack are cutoffs... which are important.
    lol
Hell most of them come with a one year warranty now.

I have yet to see ANY hid kit come with cutoffs. Even the expensive ones. But if he has an expensive kit in there now, and you imply it would have included cutoffs. Then he would not need them in a new kit, since he can keep the ones from the old kit.

Have yet to see a flicker problem with my kit as well. But I have only had it for a month now. So maybe it comes over time??

Also the 1 year warranty is a joke. You have to pay for the shipping to send your kit back, which costs half what the kit is worth.
