Help with out of province car purchase.

Can anyone help me in purchasing a car across the country?

I need some advise on how to purchase a car that is located across the country.
I plan to ship the car home (already researched a shipping company)
i know i need to have it inspected when it arrives in my province (British Columbia)

From what i understand after the car arrives i need to have the original registration with the owners signature on the back to bring to my icbc agent, who then issues me a permit to drive the car to an inspection facility. After it passes all inspections i can then take ownership and insure it in my name.

Where my concern is, how do i go about transferring funds in a guaranteed manor?
Is there any mediator services i can hire to do the transfer of paperwork / funds?
Im scared that if i send the funds that the car wont arrive / be shipped in the agreed condition, although im sure i can trust this seller, I think its responsible to iron out these details and have them set in a professional manor.

I could go to the province the car is located in, but the cost of trip would be rounding the $2000 range, and im sure other have found ways to buy a car outside of province without having seen it in person.

This is my first out of province purchase and any help would be much appreciated.
    thanks everyone!

Take my advice or not...your choice.

I personally wouldn't purchase a vehicle without seeing it in person or have someone trustworthy enough to have a look at the car for you. Just to check it, how it runs, and specially rust. A simple minor hole in a trunk that's rusted through will definitely fail ur inspection and could cost you around 700-1,000 dollars just to fix it up.

From experience when I bought my GTR. It cost me around $1,400 for the trip. I took a flight to my destination and checked the car out. Got a 3 day permit to drive it home. But I honestly wouldn't do it that way again due to the fact that the road conditions in the BC mountain were insane and unpredictable weather. Although since it's summer now. You might enjoy the trip depending where the car you are purchasing is at.

From memory, I think you need the bill of sale, transfer of ownership, and I believe you have to pay 5% GST and then when you resister your car in ur province you have to pay another 5% for the PST. And they way I purchased the car was with a "bank draft."

That's all I could think of for now. I just got off work so I'm brain dead. So if u have any specific questions just ask here or PM me. BTW what car are u purchasing and where at?

And if you fail ur first inspection, don't get down on urself. haha. I failed my first one...it felt like breaking up with meghan fox. LOL. jk
