My hicas light is on. would purchasing the Hicas eliminator kit the best way to do it?
or how much more expensive will it cost to actually fix it without the kit?

Lockbar works. But for racetrack use a non HICAS subframe to eliminate balljoints and can upgrade subframe bushes at same time. If you search for drift thread's, should find a S13? non HICAS subframe fits (also R32 has a model without HICAS, so can use that subframe).
If HICAS light on dash is on -
Low fluid level in powersteering resouvoir (common problem, especially if powersteering hoses in engine bay are leaking due to using factory clamps. Solution is to change to worm drive type clamps and drain, refill with new powersteering fluid)
Alternator problem (low? voltage)
Sensor or wiring problem
Not using a HICAS compatible boss kit (non compatible boss kit interfers with steering angle sensor for HICAS that's behind steering wheel). I think you guys call it a hub?
