Question about the All Wheel Drive in the R32 GTR.

Question about the All Wheel Drive in the R32 GTR.

I currently own a skyline R32 GTS-T and was considering buying an Skyline R32 GTR. I was curious about how the AWD system worked in the GTR. If it was 50-50 or 70-30. Also any other details about the GTR would be helpfull, ex. common problems and expensive fixes.

The gtr has a torque split awd system, the car runs in rwd but it has g-sensors that detetct how much g-force your pulling in a corner or on acceleration and sends anywhere from 0-50% power to the front wheels or if you get wheel spin it automatically sends 50% to the front wheels.
From what iv gathered the common problems/maintenance areas are:
Timing belt, tensioner, idler and water pump if it is approaching 100,000 kilometers
The coil packs will be On their last leg most likely, both skylines iv owned came with bad coil Packs, also if u look at your coil packs and they have red dust on them don't drive the car till u replace the timing belt tensioners cuz red dust is a sign they're rusting and ready to break off and let your valves put a hole in each piston.
Obviously the fluids, engine, tranny, x-fer case, diff, cooling system, brakes, always good to flush the fluids when u first purchase a car.
Check the suspension, tie rods can be checked by taking the weight off the wheels and grabbing either side of the wheel and shaking, if theirs play the tie rods r bad, ball joints grab the top and bottom of the wheel if u feel play the ball joints need to be replaced, if there's clunking from the suspension or it's really bouncy over bumps the struts may be bad.
Also both skylines iv owned came with bad fuel pumps but you will know if the fuel pump is bad cuz the car will randomly feel like it's engine braking.
That's All I can think of for now cuz I'm at work and need to get back to working

isnt the torque split different depending on which gear you are in... for example 1st and 2nd gear is upto 50/50 then 3rd is 60/40 4th is 70/30 and 5th is 100 rwd... i could be mistaken... but i swear ive read it somewhere or something... i dont know why its in my head but it is...

^ I think I've read something similar to you, Shadao, but I'm pretty sure even in 5th if you throw her into a corner hard, the AWD will still kick in.

^ For the AWD to kick in you would have to be getting some wheelspin, since cornering G forces actually counter the kicking in of the AWD. When the G sensor reads lateral(?) G forces, it reduces the amount of torque transfered to the front wheels.

That being said, if you hard corner in 5th gear to the point of getting sufficient wheelspin for AWD, who knows if you'll have enough 5th gear torque to get you out of that one in one piece. I'm not the one who's going to try it.
