From my understanding its illegal to sell Oil based paints for automotive use.
Also I'm not sure what you paint/ body guy is telling you but again to spray its just hard on the tips/ you need a good air separator not?
Maybe the paint/ body gurus can que in.

Bingo!
Oil based, or as we call it "Dupont's cheaper line - Nason" sold a brand of paint which required very specific disposal methods. Unfortunately people failed to dispose of this paint properly and it proved to be very bad for the environment. Therefore - Ban.
Here's my strongest recommendation to you OP.
Find a body shop that doesn't ask the customer to get the product for him.

Because race car.
Not in this province. The paint you want is a VOC (volitile organic compound) based paint, any shop should be able to get it. If you are still coming up with bupkis go to Lordco and get some single stage urathane from Omni (a cheaper line from PPG). I have had great luck with that paint and they can mix up that exact shade.
I'm not sure I would trust a shop that can't get their hands on some urathane.....

There is no ban on VOC paint here in BC, the greenest place on earth.....LOL.
And, obviously, if the painter doesn't have the equip. to paint water based paint he is using urathane.
