R33 GTR AN0 Super Clear Red Paint Problem

    Hi

I am new to this forum. I just recently imported a AN0 1995 Skyline GTR. When the car was in the dealership in Japan, there was no issue with the paint, however, during transport, areas where the car was covered in blue plastic lead to moisture retention and the paint was burned.

Picture of the car in Japan:

    Picture of blue plastic areas:

Car when it arrived in Canada, a lot dirtier

The car was sitting in the train yard for about 3-4 days in Toronto and there was heavy rain, the car got quite dirty. The blue plastic wasn't applied completely smooth and as result rain water was able to get in. My theory is some sort of solvent or maybe acid rain did the damage. My mechanic tells me its burned all the way into the paint.

Pictures of Damage to the paint:

So I am looking for advise as how I can fix this and restore to original condition. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Wow gorgeous car man! Who did u import it thru? Raw deal with the paint. Try polishing with an orbiter and wax it, see I'd that helps. If not u may need to employ a body shop.

Send "CobrAA" a message. Go under media and you'll see some of his detailing work he's done. I'm sure he has a solution for you.

Or as mentioned above, find a local, reputable body shop.

my first advice is try to get some kind of polish/compound at Canadian tire like autoglym resin-polish.. rub it with a microfiber... see iif it did something.

I can't tell from the pic if it's burned or a simple wet-sand will be needed. but I've never heard acid rain burning paint.. Sometime the acid water get etched in the paint but that's only 3-4 microns.. a paint can have as much as 150 microns so 3-4 less wont hurt anything.

I just dont want to do a 15 hours drive to tell you your paint is burned and I cant do anything for you.

    Hi CobrAA

Well when I go over with my hand, the clear coat is clearly still on, as it is on the same level as the good paint. However that is not true with one scratch as I tried using rubbing alcohol and some of the clear came off. How would I be able to find out what the extent of the damage is?

    Thanks
    Dave

Gorgeous car! Bummer with the paint though. Hopefully it won't cost a lot to fix.
