Ignition problem? (battery light on)

Just a weird problem that occurred spontaneously last night on a cold start.


The battery light doesn't go off after the engine starts.

Typically the battery light stays during ignition the turns off when the engine runs.

Car functions same as before, other than this battery light staying on. A few of my gauges are blinking like it's in ignition too. (I have started taking it all apart to see if there was a short somewhere)


Any ideas?

Hmm. well, my alternator crapped out once. Started beating on the battery cause it wasn't fully charging anymore. Same symptoms but lasted a few months before it fried and didn't charge at all. Could be a bad connection to the battery or to the alternator, both easy to diagnose.

The battery light will usually come on when the alternator is not charging sufficiently, or erratically.

Yup alternator issue somewhere.

Update:

Car ran on battery power for 2 days with bad misfire and eventually bit the dust. LOL, it just had to die when I needed the car the most. Towing was a good coin spillage.

Took the alternator out, dropped off at a renowned rebuilder in town.

Rebuilder says its coils are burned out, getting it rebuilt = ~ $140 bux and guaranteed.
