All Methanol/water user, please chime in!

    Hey guys,

Just got back from my tune..it made good power but my tuner stopped at 21psi. I feel like with water-meth you can go higher than this rating. Also, he didn't want to play with my methanol because I didn't had a gauge showing how much I,M injecting like the aquamist does. To him, without this gauge, it's not worth it trying to tune a methanol kit and he don't believe there's a major gain from this mod.

To tell the truth, I think he was a big scared to go over-the-limit and decide to call it a day at 21psi.

Right now, I'm running only one jet and I can't even confirm, I'm running the bigger one out of the 3. ( I didn't install it).

Have you guys seen increase in power by adding more jet ? Would you think I would benefit from adding another jet, without going back to the dyno or it's worthless?

I know it's working because my tank is going down but I seriously can't tell you how much I'm injecting, starting and full psi I don't know either.

well adding meth without being tuned for it you will actually lose power.

very true....I actually lost 8hp when adding methanol...but it still isnt tuned with the meth added. A well known tuner in vancouver told me that you need to substancially increase the timing for maximum gains with the meth but it is safe. I'm running the big nossel aswell and he told me that is sufficient. My buddy has an MKIV supra with 701rwhp on pump gas + meth (100% meth no water bs ) and the tuner considered this a very safe tune for his car. He spliced in another nossel and is running it right next to eachother.

There is a huge debate on running 1 or 6 nossels....check out my build thread "its just a little turbo" and there is a little debate on there...think its around page 3 or so.

Which kit are you using? AEM? Cuz on the little controller you can set it on which psi you would like it to start spraying and a maximum psi where it is spraying the most.

You won't see any benefit adding more meth with more nozzles without a tune. I would get a gauge and try again. The meth is fuel and you must subtract idc to make power.

about the single nozzle vs individual nozzles. Of course 6 is better. Its like argueing 1 fuel injector vs individual injectors.

Search water meth dyno results I created a thread with my results 2 weeks ago and a few other members also contributed with actual real world results on our cars. The questions you have Re in there as well as timing curves, fuel used, boost ect ect

Also are you boosting at a corrected 21 psi or gauge psi ? You should pick up 40-50whp minimum with a clean meth/water tune

Thanks guy for the response. car has been tuned with the Methanol running but my tuner didn't feel like water-methanol is a good idea so he didn't ''waste'' time with it.

So let say, I turn the boost to 23psi instead of 21 and make sure I have the bigger jet or add a second one, Am I f*cking the tune? If I get it right, the problem with methanol is that you need to adjust timing also, something i can't do myself ?

My tuner also said he played a bit with timing but he told me only a couple of degrees and I ofter heard that with meth you can run like a difference of 15-20 degrees.

I just feel like my meth kit is not beeing used to his full potentiel. Any tuner in the ottawa area that could do those little ''touch-up'' ?

Timing can get really aggressive on a meth tune, so yes I'd make sure you tune for it. I got an extra 3 psi, reduced my knock by 30 some points and ran a more aggressive timing by 10 or so degrees.

Tune after meth will be the easiest power you milk out of your car, I swear by it. If your tuner doesn't believe it, I'll personally email him my dyno graphs... Should change his mind

Also if you ever change anything, boost, meth amount, timing etc... It's always good to have a retune, if you are gonna spend money buying new stuff, spend an extra $200 for some dyno time and get the most of your new parts.

Can you post your before and after dyno sheets?
I'd like to see the differences

+1 for needing a tune to get more power with meth. The mechanism for achieving this is running more timing advance to get peak cylinder pressure to fall closer to 12-14 degrees past TDC rather than however much after this you're able to get a the knock threshold on pump gas. The methanol actually increases the effective octane of your fuel enabling you to run more timing.

Turning up the boost so your 21 psi timing map becomes a 23 psi + meth timing map might work, but it's much like russian roulette for engine. Or walking two steps closer to a cliff in the dark. Engine damage happens very quickly at the power levels you're running.

If you lack confidence in your tuner, go find another one, but if I were you I wouldn't just turn up the boost.

    Dyno Results with water meth

should be at the top of that page. Also note that the only things changed were a result of what the water/meth enabled me to do.
