    BNR32 Rear Diff Issues

I changed out the rear diff fluid a few months ago (haven't put many kms on the car since) but now I've noticed the diff isn't locking up. I used the Redline oil that is suggested for the application so I would have to assume the clutch pack in the diff is worn out. It's also making a very noticable "whurring" noise mostly noticable at lower speeds.
What are my options? Is is cost effective or possible to rebuild? Should I just swap it for a new one? Is it the same as a Z32 diff?

    Thanks!

R32 is Unique to GTR.. rebuild is a great idea (look up clutch pack numbers on nissan "fast") and new bearings too.

Here in Toronto i can get them at the JDM parts guys for about 2-300 bucks.. cost effective if your just using stock.

ALSO i've talked to the engineers at "REDLINE FLUIDS" and by using a GL-4 Fluid, the clutches will lock harder. as GL-5 fluid basicaly has anti-chatter additive for the differential. which makes the clutches less grabby.

I threw in MT-90 in my skyline and my diff lasted 2 years before it over heated at a track day and the gears ate themselves

Bobbo another option would be just replace it with an aftermarket one and that will last you a long time and take some track days easily. Aftermarket one will only run you along the lines of 1000$ and will eventually pay you back. Cusco one should be great for your application.

Thanks you a$$hole! I was thinking I could get away with $300-$400 but now you've got me thinking. That's actually a good enough idea that I'm gonna have to seriously consider it. I thought they were quite a bit more than that though.
The only thing is I don't fully understand the different types to pick what would work for my application. I use the car at the track and auto X quite often and cruise around on the street aswell of course. The car virtually never sees the rain either.

Well Bobbo I was just throwing the idea out there you dink, but it is a great option to upgrade. If your looking to spend less sway towards the kaaz diff as they will be 200-300$cheaper than the cusco. Now he next thing is do you daily drive your car? The questions is asked because if you don't it would be a easy decision to get a 2 way that locks like a motha facka and be done with it but if you daily it then you would eat tires on the inside. I know who to contact of your going to buy

It is an idea I am greatful for you mound of festering puss. I do NOT daily the car. It's a weekend/sunny evening toy but I wish to maintain drivability at the sametime.
That being said I'm not too concerned with some extra tire scrubbing but how is the clutch engagement different from stock? Do the clutches engage sooner AND harder? How will this affect the way the car comes out of a corner compared to original?
Do you have experience with these set ups?

gtrjon I agree with you and thank you for reminding me of my original intention.

If i may add, you can't really "BUILD" a diff. as what ususaly fails are the bearings. I own about 3-4 GTR (r32) differentials. One wiht a nismoGT 1.5way(bearings failed), and one with a Tomei 2way(bearings failed) and a stock one...(still good LOL)

Given i may acctualy abuse my driveline harder then any one on the forum, stock, nismo, cusco, tomie, your only upgrading the locking mechanism. the best bearing i've used are just from nissan...(NTK?KOYO?)

PERSONALY i've never blown the clutch housing, but they aftermarket ones ARE considerably more beefy

More to consider. I do think the bearings are gone as it diff is making a "wherring" sound. Can you not remove the bearings and press on new ones???
