    rb30 turbo ideas?

    hey guys,
so i bought a rb26 head, and a rb30 block, and well pretty much building the whole thing with goodies.

will be doing forged pistons, rods, stock crank. new cams, valves, valve springs. port and polished head. pretty much everything. nice intake/exhaust manifold. stand alone ecu, proper tune and so on.

Now the real question is what turbo i should get??? and the hp goal is 500 rwhp, which i know is fairly easy, especailly for how im going to build my motor, but i want it daily driver, reliable. and i dont want some gigantic turbo lag 30 psi crap. no offense. i want whats proper, something thats decent for spool, and i dont want to run huge psi. i dont really want to go more then 20. (i have my reasons)

so what i been looking at is precision turbo, 6266. and i talked to precision about my build and thats the recomendation. said it will have very quick spool, which i doubt VERY quick but if so then awesome, and that the bigger exhaust side will enable it to not die up top for power. and i dont want to spend 4000$ on something like a t51r even though i dream about it.

let me know any ideas. at this point i just need to figure out whats the build plan (specific parts) and then time to start the shopping list.

and i know alot of you will be like wtf man, that will make a reliable 700 pretty much, but on rwd it will already be more then i need, so dont flame me for this. thanks.

Honestly, go bigger than you think. I love my T88, I can putt around off boost and get really good mileage and rotate the earth when i want to. I very rarely go over 20 psi because I can make 650hp at 18psi.....with egt's in the basement. Low egt's make for a happy engine. When I want to really scare the crap out of someone, Ill crank her up to 24psi and pump out close to 800hp. All this and only 2.6l.

Just because a turbo is capable of 1100hp (which mine is) doesn't mean you have to. I say buy one capable of 800hp and run it at 500hp, you will have decent spool and egt's so low it will last a very long time.

With a 3L bottom end the low end power will be unreal
Don't forget you can run 18psi on a bigger turbo and get bigger power
With a forged bottom end / 26 head you can't really get a better set up for a skyline
This motor will spool a turbo quicker than you think and with the quality of turbos your looking at investing in....go bigger brother.
You can do 700rwhp daily.... I'm planning the exact same build and aiming for 800

I'm not sure if you just robbed a bank or something! lol but seriously you will be wasting a lot if you are only aiming for 500rwhp and plan on buying all of those mods. A/m intake plenum for example is only necessary for anything over 700 and its min $1200.

Full turbo back Exhaust, fmic, oil cooler, 660cc ~< injectors, decent intake (apexi) if staying twins or custom for single, 276+ fuel pump, forged bottom, procams, and a mild head build. Stand alone and a good tune is key!

There's also going to be machining costs and a good gasket kit (apexi, tomei, cosworth etc....)

Just a recomendation, but if your goal isnt super high power
Then don't waste your money unless your after "baller status".

Also do yourself a favour and don't buy eBay stuff. A lot of the good deals on no name parts turn out to be bad deals on paper weights. Although I've heard success storys too, 9 out of 10 are bad.

so you guys think keep bottom end stock and just build the head? and i didnt realise that the 30 will make such a difference on spool time. sounds amazing lol. and yeah i realise it will cost a ton of money and way over kill, but like i said i want daily, so with a 26/30 what would be still safe for that much power if i didnt build it all.

and you guys say go bigger, but how big! thats the point of this thread. thanks though for the replies.

Look into the components Nitto.co.au have available for this swap the pricing for gaskets and pistons are very reasonable and very high quality.
    Pistons
    Rods
    Gaskets
    oil pump
    all very nice stuff
    You can't fix stupid.

    just a thought here,

uh... if you run a turbo that isn't sized close to the power you want, don't you miss out on response, bottom end and mid range? running a turbo that's rated at 600hp and making 500 hp would be a much better performing turbo that a car with a 1000hp turbo making 500hp?

^yes, response is lost with a bigger turbo
But with this 3L bottom end, a high quality turbo and the right piping you can get away with a bigger turbo
Also the rb30 doesn't, or apparently shouldn't run past 8k rpm, the gt35 would be plenty. After a year of that set up I can Det you wanting to go bigger. Gt35 and go from there. It's all info on a message board until you have the work done and car running. Your opinion and perspective may change after you drive what you have. The learning curve never ends with these cars
