    VQ-powered GT-R?

what is your opinion of a GT-R with a VQ engine swap; preferably a VQ35DE from a 350Z/G35 with some sort of turbocharging or a 'VQ30DETT' if a street version even exists that is.
nothing against the RB at all.
first got the idea from the 2003 JGTC GT-Rs and i am quite obsessed with it, such as the lower weight and better chassis balance.

why not swap a real engine in like a ls7 or a 20b.

I personally find no other engine worthy of swapping into a gtr.

You were wondering what the collective opinion is on swapping a VQ into a GTR...

If your that concerned with lower weight and chassis balance, start with something that isnt 18-15 years old.

Maybe even a 350zx then you dont have to worry about the swap.

The heart and soul of a GTR is the engine.

There are way more RB26 swapped 350z and G35s out there than there will ever be VQ35 swapped Skylines.

What exactly does a GTR do badly that you feel you need a lighter engine? I can't drive the car to its full potential with a stock RB26, I can't imagine ever needing a lighter engine, just more power.

If you want a lighter engine, but the chasis that it comes with as well.

I don't know why anyone would bother. Top Secret did a VQ project that was like 320ps in NA trim but it was more to showcase the velicity stanks, plenum and grab attention...cause that hp is weaksauce. You want torque? Build a RB30...

I went for laps in the retired JGTC Skyline with the RB26 and trust me, there was no problem in any way, shape or form with that motors weight, responsive, torque etc. 500hp with even more torque.

how about reliability... and less parts to fail? especially on an extended run? also runs cooler i believe giving less heat stress to all the rest of the components under the hood. i heard there were some breakdowns at the last skymeet at the track... not to mention my own issues on RB reliability :P lol

RB's are far more reliable then VQ's .. VQ's are made of aluminum and warp at the thought of heat.

While N/A has some definite advantages, the Skyline just doesn't seem like to right platform if you want to go that way.

N/A, "lower weight and better chassis balance" bring NSX to my mind, not GTR.

    My 2 cents.

depending on what you want to do...keep the RB put the money that your going to buy the VQ with and build up the motor (forged internals and what not) be able to hold a lot more power and be as reliable if not more the a new VQ plus with the VQ i think once you get to 500hp or less you need to build up the motor. costing more money. they are not a fan of high boost and im not sure or not but your other drivline parts may suffer.

    RB FTW.

If you find a donor 350Z for your project, do you want to trade my R32 rolling for the rolling Z33 chassis straight up!
