    clutch fork noise

I'm not sure if i'm getting the location/terminology correct, but i'm hearing a squeaking noise when my foot is off the clutch, ie when its fully engaged. I've done some investigating and its right where the clutch piston pushes on a fork to release the clutch. It's located on the driver side of the tranny. I can stop the noise by touching the fork. So basically I'm wondering how I can adjust the hydraulics to get the noise to stop. Anybody else have this problem?

I know of the squeaking noise I get from every time i depress the clutch peddle. But are you referring to a constant noise? Like sound from a bearing?

To fix the bearing noise, it could mean a replacement of the bearing. Or that the shaft is dirty along with the pivot ect. Sometimes a good cleaning fixes noises using fresh grease on it all. To replace the bearing you need to split the trans from the eng. You will know the bearing is bad by spinning it in your hand. If its not too rough I wouldnt bother splitting the trans till you need to replace a clutch. most clutch kits come with a new bearing anyways.

There is not really any way to adjust the hydro unless your peddle feel is in the wrong spot. If the peddle feel is way at the bottom of the peddle then you can crawl under the dash with your feet in the air, bring with you a 12mm wrench, long needle nose pliers and a light. Thread out the rod from the clutch master attached to the peddle bracket. Other then the peddle being "out of feel" there is nothing. The diaphram on the pressure plate forces the bearing off itself when the clutch engages. But i suppose if there is dirt and gunk on the shaft then it could cause the bearing to slightly rub making a sound. But thats not so common.

When I install new clutches, I take the fork and clean it in the parts washer, I also clean the hell out of the shaft and the pin ball. Same with that clip holding the fork on the pin ball. Once everything is ultra tidy, i grease the shaft and the pin ball. That normally makes for smooth operation

Thanks for the detailed response. Its definately not the release bearing or a bearing of any sort in fact. It is for sure where the clutch piston touches the fork. It only squeaks when the clutch pedal is not depressed, and if i even depress it slightly (ie putting a little pressure on the clutch fork) it stops making the noise So its just from a rubbing/contact of the 2 metal surfaces. I will try cleaning and greasing it as you say. I was hoping there was some way to adjust so the contact of the surfaces was a little different. Either a little more contact force or a little less would eliminate the noise.

i know what it is....go under car, open up the clutch fork boot, look inside and spray some lithium grease on the clutch pivot ball/bushing/pin whatever....aim good coz u dont want some grease on ur disc just in case for safety...enjoy

Mark, I don't think its inside the tranny, ie not up inside where the pivot ball is, but just where the actuator is on the bottom right side of the tranny just before it enters the tranny. I'm thinking i'll try to just clean the contact surface up a bit, and try to put some grease on there.

it does make the noise coz the pivot ball with the fork resting on it is dry n prolly has some rust...worked for me...and also grease the pin on the clutch slave where it pushes the fork

    yup
