    New rb26 failure

I had a brand new engine installed,Tomei cams , CP pisions crower rods. acl bearring, 2860-5 turbos. It made 591 hp at 22lbs.

The place that installed the engine told me I did not need to break in the engine before the dyno. So it had 0 miles before the dyno tune.

Should the engine have been broken in first?

They told me the engine had an oil leak.
1st they said it was the main seal. So they fixed it.
2nd They said it was now the cam seals. This was more than likley the original leak. So they sald all is well no more leaks.

When I picked up the car a week later the engine oil light was on at idle. They told me to rev it up and it will go away, WTH?

We I think they did not check the oil level. Because on the way home my engine oil light stayed on and the engine died. I checked the oil dip stick and they was no oil in the pan.

So now I need a rebuild and a set of new turbos because they are fried too. I am soo pissed.

Oh BTW , they did not conect the transmission breather tubes to the transmission and all the trans oil REDLINE SHOCK PROOF leaked all over my new coilovers (BC RACING) and new (WEDS SPORT SA55) rims as exhaust.

THEY CHARGED ME to check the engine over prior to install. Now the shop tells me, OH IT MUST HAVE BEEN A CLEARANCE ISSUE WITH THE CRANK BEARRINGS. THATS WHY THE OIL LIGHT WAS ON.

I said, If there was a problem why the **** did you let me take my car home then? SO IT COULD BLOW UP and waste the turbos too? If it was a clearance issue I think it would have blown up on the dyno. Don't you?

They charged me over 5k US just to install the engine, trans and tune.

Can someone please ahow me how the trans over flow hoses are routed too.

I am holding them fully responsable.

They told me it was the engine builders fault. And that the bearing clearance was not right. I said it should have blown up on the dyno then. I told them well you charged me to check out the engine. They told me they even check the bearring and saw that they were new but did not bother to check the clearance. I said WHY NOT you already took it off. WTF?

wow, you got raped so hard, with no lube.

i hope they're paying to fix EVERYTHING

edit: wait, were they the ones that built the motor? or did you buy it from somewhere else, and have this shop install it?

sue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but not going to lie dude you handled this situation stupidly. Driving with the oil light on is a no no!!! you should know you need a break in on a fresh motor. and driving the car knowing it is leaking oil? also you should of done your research on the shop before you trusted them with your car and your money. but they should be liable.

Sounds like a shady shop raped you a new one.. Hopefully you can resolve with them.. But the sad thing is 99% of the story I heard. It is always the customer bite the bullet and fix it through other shops out of their own pockets. Anyways.. Good Luck...

where are you located? Shop name? can anyone get them on here to comment on that?

if it is exactly as you described it, then its their fault, and they need to fix it for free... don't accept "no fault" as an answer, they are liable... if they refuse you can pursue it over many many channels... keep us updated.

Sorry to hear bro. That shop sounds like they know less than most car owners doing their own maintenance.... All you can do is talk to a lawyer even though you made some bad decisions... you could try to plead ignorance.

Personal question, who drives a 20 year old car with that much invested and doesn't know these basics... no offence.

They told me the Engine was sand blasted.

There was some dirt and sludge in the oil pan when I gave it to them. I told the they had to clean it out because it was soo dirty. They told me they did I think maybe not. Once again their fault.

To boot, you know what else is messed up. these guys did not have all the bolts for the install so they had one of the mechanics dig through the pile of old bolt. Well it must have taken him awhile because they charged me 4 hrs labor at US$100. per hr for him to find the bolts, So $400.00 I said I ain't paying for that. You guys are smoking Crack out af alight bulb. (USA Ghetto Slang).

And they charged me to JB weld / fix a cracked boost solenoid and couldn't even fix it. I ain't paying for that either.

How the **** does sand get in the engine when i gave them the engine with out the oil pan on and they took off the valve covers and went over the engine???????????????????????????????????????????? ????????????????

Unfortunately no fault is exactly what they are gonna say and exactly where it should be left at if you wanna save time and money...

Caveat emptor, better understand wth your buying. I promise you that you will only waste more money trying to fight this given your knowledge of cars.

Sorry for your luck though man, the shop is no question shady.

Wait a minute you said you brought it there with no oil pan, so it was there responsibility
to put the oil pan, and FILL IT WITH OIL.

If there wasn't any oil in the pan when you checked. Does that mean that every one has
to go and check there car when they get it form the garage isn't it the reason they bring
it to a garage in the first place.

My best friend had a oil change done on there van a while ago, where one mechanic took
the oil out, but left the filler cap on, and a second mechanic thinking the first one had
already filled with new oil took it out for a test drive, without checking, seized the engine.
Well let me tell you, within a week he had a new engine in the van, and he even got a
loaner car while is van was being worked on. That's why they pay for insurance.

And for the op's fault for not knowing to much about car, he said it happened in weeks
time, who would need to check is oil level within a week of having it changed ?
I can't see a garage cleaning there hands this easy from a mistake like this.

And my fathers own a garage and I was the Controller of a store that had a decent size
garage attached to it, where we had a customer that said that one of the mechanic
screwed him over because he forgot to put the oil cap back on and the oil spilled all
out of the engine, and caused it to start knocking before seizing. Guess what, even
tho in is car it was almost impossible for the oil to get out by the oil cap, the shop
installed a other engine in is car. Again that's why insurance are important.
