    stereo

hey so just wanting to know what people out there are running for stereo setups. i never cared about the stereo in my cars before and when i bought my r32 gtr i didnt care about luxury things like a stereo but finally looked at it the other day cause the door speakers are cracking like crazy and found out that the rear speakers are non existant lolz and the front ones are so bad now i dont even bother with music. left over from my last car is a kenwood deck, kenwood 1000w amp and a kenwood 10" shallow sub in a box and so far dont know what to do for speakers and is it worthwhile to use the sub?

I went with jl speakers all around and love them. I checked out focal but thet don't have proper fitment for any skyline sizes. Cheap option is alpine. But all in all I would definitely stick with jl! My speakers sound great and I will be adding a jl w7 with a nice amp this year, that one 12 will hit really hard!

I'm just happy with my kicker speakers, sound good enough and were like $100 for two.

I believe they are 6x9 in the rear and they were some super weird sizing up front. I got plates to go over my current setup and just zipped them right in. No probs! I spent 500$ on mine and have been please since the day I bought. Now I just need to replace my deck with something with a little better output and acdc should sound beauts on there buddy!

As far as brands are concerned, it really depends on your budget and whether or not you plan on using an external amp, or just running them on deck power. The brands mentioned above are all good, although alpine is pretty $hi##y in there entry level. Brands like PPi , Zapco, Morel, or Rainbow are what I would look for. Price wise, for a good set look to spend $250 -$500 depending. I should say if you are planning on running them using just the decks power, don't waste your money buying speakers with a high power handling, as you will not get much output with the 50w x 4 (actually 18w-25w RMS) output of your headunit. In that case look for a name brand entry to mid-level speaker ($150 -$250). As far as size, I have a 90 GTR and I put 5 1/4s in the back and 6.5 components up front. The rears are pretty straight forward. It looks like they are 6x9s, but once you remove the grills you will see that a 5 1/4 fits perfect. For the fronts, after removing the door skin, start by removing the factory wooden speaker plate. Mine were pretty much disintegrated so i traced them onto some 1/4" plexiglass, cut them out and painted them flat black (1/4" MDF will work just as well). There is a portion of the factory plate that acts as a barrier on the inside of the pocket in the door. Because I am running a Component set, I used the crossover as the barrier. I have pics that will help to explain this (PM me as I am not able to post pics). If you are running an average coaxial speaker set, you will not have an external crossovers, so you will need to duplicate the factory bracket design. If you do not, anything you put in the pocket will end up behind your door skin. After that its a straight forward install. Depending on the condition of the wiring you might want to run new wires to the head unit. I have done a lot of work on the audio in this car, from full re-wire to sound deadening the doors and trunk. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.
    Hope this helps.
