    Parting out a gtr

Hey guys, having a string of really bad luck with my car right now. Won't bore you with the details, however will say it would be about 5 grand just to get her back to a respectable level of condition. Was flirting with the idea recently of parting her out and starting fresh with another one. So anyone have any guestimates on how much can be made? FYI car is bone stock with bumper, skirts, tranny unsellable.

Long story, bought in 09 in worse shape than I was led to believe. First off, it has a phantom electrical problem. All the symptoms of a blown MAF, and was told by Autodream that that's what it was. Bought two off them, worked well for a week, then problems returned. Secondly, have a massive brake fluid leak. No puddles under the car, ever, yet would drop below min. in a day. ABS looks to have a leak, however not bad enough for this. Can't visually see any leaks in lines.

As far as the body goes, had it at a friends to work on it. Had taken the front bumper and a whole bunch of other crap off the front to change the timing belt. He abruptly calls me up one day and tells me he needs it out that weekend so his girl could park in here. Moved the car to my parents driveway till I could find a more permenant solution, put the bumper behind the shed.

Went over too my parents place a week later to check on her, and noticed two scratch going the entire length of the passenger side. Thought it was some punk kids having fun, however went back a month later and there was now about 40 deep scratches going the length of the car. DS window had gouges out of it as well. Turns out the jerkoff downstairs was riding his bike back and forth by it dailey, and didn't like having the car there.

End of that month my parents were moving, there landlord sent over some old guy to do some work on the house, and clean the yard. I went out behind the shed to grab my bumper when I was transporting the car, and noticed it wasn't there. Turns out the old dude threw it away!

Also, that same day transporting the car, had to start it to get it on the trailer. The battery was dead so we had to jumpstart it. I sat down in the gtr while my cousin was hooking up the cables, couple seconds later I notice smoke comming from the engine bay. Turns out he put them on backwards. Switched them over and started her up, no gauges worked, no lights, nothing. As soon as I removed the cables she died.

Last but not least. The first year I had her I took her to my cousins work for a fluid change. Tranny as well. Took it out on deerfoot, shifted from 3rd to 4th, and got the grind. Cousin looks at me and laughs, thinking I just missed a shift. Nope, I've now had it ever since. Honestly, I'm at the point where if I can get 4500 as is I'd do it.

If your serious we might be able too work something out. She's a great girl and all that, but it just doesn't seem too be working out lol. I just want a damn gtr to drive not stress over. I've had her for two years and have had one good week.

you sir... have some bad luck.

I would think this to be something you need to spend more time on, and based on your story I would say you probably don't have a lot of time, tools or mechanical experience.

you didn't mention the engine, if the engine is good then this might be worth saving.

you need to know whats actually broken and what just needs a kick to get back into shape...heres what I would do in your position:

    1) Check every single fuse in the drivers compartment panel and the box under the hood, I promise you will find some blown ones, and most your electronics should revive themself.

    2) your miss-fire/hesitation problem could be ignition system related. you replaced the MAF's, so either O2 sensors next, or ignition coils, plugs, harness or amp. one of those or more is probably in rough shape.

    3) as for the missing bumper, look around these forums, theres ALWAYS ppl parting cars, you can buy a used GTR bumper for like $150 roughly.

    4) the body work - Vinyl wrap bro. it's one third the price of fresh paint, pick your color and easy to keep clean.

    5) the brake fluid leak... my guess is the seals on your calipers are blown, so you press the brake pedal in and fluid squeeze out onto the pads and rotors.

Personally, I don't think this car is a write off just yet, you've got a lot of small problems that need to be dealt with, and as you make a list of everything wrong and begin correcting the issues one by one, you will start to feel happy again, and believe in yourself!

good luck, keep us posted, and we're done to help you how ever we can.

Thanks archaeic, however don't you think it might be better to let her go for 5000 ( part or whole) and buy another for ten with no issues?

P.S. The engine is sound. Compression was 154 153 154 156 153 150 last year. Put 2 km on it since.
