    Imput on building head!

Hey guys so now that my bottom end is complete im starting to build my head to match. im not trying to rev to 11k like a fan boy but at the same time my bottom end is built so i will rev to where i am still making power. that being said this is what i have planned and need some imput if i am missing anything.

    Tomei procams 280duration 10.8 lift
    supertech dual springs/retainers and seats
    supertech valve guides
    valve seals
    supertech valves.

so my three big questions are. what are the benefits of going oversized valves? are valve locks needed? and am i missing anything?

It really depends on what your going for when your asking about what parts to buy. What are you hoping to make power wise? what turbo and boost are your running, where do you want your power? Like they said, bottom end holds the power, top makes the power. Your going to be running a decent size cam, so your idle is definitely going to be a tad lumpy and you may want to consider that you probably wont pass aircare with those, but your going to be able to move a decent amount of air especially at higher rpm.

As for the benefits of oversized valves, well they are oversized so they can let more air and exhaust through the combustion chamber, and usually they are a little bit stronger. I personally like the GTR valves, the exhaust valves are sodium filled for better cooling. If your thinking of getting larger valves you may want to look into the cost of machining and the price of larger seats, springs, seals, etc to go with them. That may be a factor for some.

turbo is a borgwarner s300x 91-79 big single so a decent sized turbo and my high boost setting will be around 30psi and power should be ~600awhp. I am building my car for a street/drag car so response isnt a huge deal. i know with a 10.8 lift my idle is going to be far from smooth but im not really too worried about it with the tunning i plan on doing it should smooth out. i originally was going to stick with stock valves and andrew from z tune even says he likes them as well and i know they are strong but floating a valve scares me and honestly for 500 bucks that valves cost even with machining costs its a small price to pay compared to the rest of the money i have invested in my motor for the piece of mind its going to provide me. im also adding tomei solid lifters to my list! and air care is not really a concern for me. caliber your from burnaby? i live in south burnaby by metrotown!!!!

think about what you want to do with combustion chamber work - ie quench pads

think about modding the coolant and oil passages

think about o-rings on the block or head

    think about port work

think about crank case vent mods

I run the same cams and idle is acceptable. if you're not happy with it, i would simply raise the idle a little.

    a v-cam would be sick!

I wouldn't be removing the quench pads on an <800hp motor, you are just asking for tuning issues on pump fuel. The quench pads will make 91 octane fuel act like 94 octane when you start to play with ign. timing (it makes that much of a difference). Other than that, that head looks really good, I would pony up the cash for that work.

Just as a comparison, some factory aluminum SBC heads are about $1400 all in for that amount of work (with flow charts). So $1500 for this head would be a good deal, and should easily push 1000hp with much less boost pressure than a stocker (say 25 psi vs. 35psi).
