how can i tell if my turbo's good or not. i know they shouldnt have too much play, but i was told that up and down play is alright, but in and out play on the shaft isn't okay. any advice?

i assume the turbo is out of the car? if you're gettin play and the turbo is out of the car imo id just replace it now since its out, get a ncie upgrade... instead of putting it back in... thats just my opinion... saves a lot of headaches later on... parts don't cost much, its the labour costs and downtime :P

runout (measured via oil return hole) 0.056-0.127 mm (0.0022-0.0050 in)
thrust clearance (measured at end of shaft) 0.013-0.096 mm (0.0005-0.0038 in)
