Lets start with the basics make sure your coolants topped up, does your car take a long time too warm up? Does the temp go down if you rev the car up? Have you noticed any white smoke out of your exhaust or a sweet smell?

Check coolant level (when car is cold!)
What level is your tempo gauge at? "A bit hot" isn't very specific!

I don't know how that's even remotely possible haha.

Don't forget your rad cap. If the system isn't pressurizing the temp will rise. An easy way to check this is if the car is running and warm the return hose should be fairly hard to squeeze.

The water pump is ran off of the motor more rpms mean more pressure from the pump. If your thermostat is stuck and you rev the motor it will 9 times out of 10 be enough pressure to open the thermostat even if it's sticking at 2000.

Unfortunately waterpumps are not pressure pumps, they just create flow. Even if a pressure was seen from the waterpump it would not be enough to overcome a thermostat, try pressing one open with your hands, you'll realize those wax pellets overcome quite a bit of tension.

If the thermostats open and you rev the car the coolant circulates faster than it would at idle thus moving coolant from the block to the rad and then replenishing it with cooler water from the radiator. I was incorrect to say that the water pump is a pressure pump my bad.
