Hey got pulled over tonight and got a ticket for the exhaust being to loud... I am running a straight 3.5 inch.
Has anyone else been having problems? They didn't ask anything about the cat they just said it was to loud even at idle.

Same happened to me a few months ago, cop let me go without a ticket, wasn't even that loud, he said it doesn't even have to b too loud, as long as its not factory/aftermarket, told me to call Nissan for a stock exhaust
I think with this new 96dB rule we'll see a lot more of these tickets. Don't make your exhaust unnecessarily loud and you should be fine.
96dB is not loud at all, so if your car is making a racket expect one in Calgary from now on.
From a reliable source I've been told this ticketing will be enforced on a "common sense" type basis. So if you rip down 17th revving or it's 2am and you're making a racket you'll get one. This is primarily the focus and they are not trying to punish loud, healthy sounding exhausts, just the ones that are out of control (you know who you are).
Yea I could understand it if I was ripping down the road but I wasn't. ... His excuse was after That he couldn't even talk over it with the car idling. I asked about a dB level of he had a way to check the level or if he had a number of which the dB level should be under but he couldn't provide either

If you want to run a straight through and not get caught for it just run a part from Apexi that puts a throttle body type valve on a switch and can either give you a full open or a restrictive flow quieting it down. I fully intend on running this although it does cost 250$. Just think of it this way, two tickets later you could have paid for it. Not a bad idea for those that don't want to follow the rules
Miss driving sooooo bad! Need to get a car on the road ASAP!
Yea I also thought about that... I can pick up a small motor and I could make the valve my self just run it on a switch and put stops on it
I think you could make a custom one for about 50 bucks
But in reality the car at idle is no louder than a cummins diesel so I don't see how it would stick

To be %100 honest, asking him what the level is or if he could actually measure it probably got your ticket for you. This ticket will be especially easssssy to slick talk out of if you don't ask questions like that, it's only a bylaw and most officers won't even care, they only want to test you.
96dB is pretty quiet and I'd bet every cent I own that straight pipes exceed that level, no need to measure. Muffled and bent mine comes in at 92-3ish dB at idle. WOT I'd fail for sure though, easily exceeds 100 dB.
Also I imagine if a bylaw officer stops you, you'll be getting a ticket for sure. Those guys are out for blood
A nice video that gives you an idea of how quiet 96dB is bone stock Black Edition failing. Despite the day being windy and the wind noise I think all us car folk know that the exhaust isnt very loud in that video.

Yea he had the warning wrote before I even asked him About the levels... I think he was just being a a**hole since he gave me a warning for my lights (3000k) and my temp. Insurance card while my permanent one came in the mail

I got pulled over 2 years ago when running a twin 3inch frontpipe with a straight 3.5inch exhaust. I turned the car off as soon as I got to the side of the road and the cop let me go. The noise thing is fairly subjective.
