My 1992 GT-R, pictures and progress.

    November 2, 2007 I purchased my 1992 GT-R.

November 3, 2007 after FINALLY getting it titled (was a pain in the ass due to a missing stamp on customs paperwork, resulting in me taking a bus from one end of toronto to the other, and back, and getting a hotel) I drive it home... where it decides to start having an ominous knocking noise under the hood. Looks like the little man with the Big Hammer got inside.

Here's some pics of when I got it home, I'll reply to this with engine removal/upgrades/rebuild pictures as they happen.

crappy pix = cos I used my cellphone camera... my real camera is MIA.

hey man was your GTR parked outside Seneca College in Markham a few days ago? If so my buddy spotted ya. I hope that the damage to the engine isn't extensive. Good luck!

no new pictures, but on thursday the motor came out, and yesterday I got it apart!

what a pain in the ass that was. Pulling it isn't too hard but stripping down the block sure took forever.

I found 3 loose screws on the oil pump, and a melted/spun #1 rod bearing.

Everything else looks nice though, and all the bearing surfaces looked nice still (even #1!).
The pistons were all fine, and nothing in the cylinder walls looks damaged. I haven't had a good look at the head/valves yet though.

So I guess it will be an easy rebuild. (hahaha, because everything with these cars is "easy"!)

Both turbochargers seem like they're in great shape. Not alot of crud in the intake manifold, but there sure was a ton of crud in the engine, especially on the pistons and such.

any pistons darker then the rest?

make sure you loctite the screws on the new pump when you throw it back together.

also if you need any advice feel free on msn, pretty sure i picked up three rotor housings off you a year back almost so you are still on my list.

Got all my parts in, aside from the pistons (still waiting on shipment of them)

Everything is off to get cryoed next week.

Crank was 0.004" under so it had to get spraywelded back up to stock.

I will take some pictures as I start putting it back together.

well BOTH my crankshafts failed magnafulxing. I got another one off a forum member here that passed! (BIG THANKS to belontay_type-m)

The parts going into the motor are as follows:

    Oil system:
N1 oil pump (cryoed the gears + the screws, locktighted the screws in)
    Tomei baffle
    1.5mm Head restirctor (thanks malibusst!)

    Block:
Stock crank, 0.025 under, rechromed at Candian Chrome.
Eagle rods, Wiseco pistons + rings (cryoned the rods and rings)
    N1 oil pump

I balanced the whole RA (flywheel, stock damper, crankshaft, rods and pistons)

    Head:
Ported the head, 5 angle valve job
Cryoed stock valve springs, valves, retainers, etc
    stock cams (for now!)
ARP Head studs, Cometic MLS HG.
    Greddy Timing belt

    other:
Nismo twin disk clutch, stock turbos (cleaned and ported), ported exhaust manifolds and o2 housings, RX-7 Oil cooler.

    Rest of the car:
Well, I figured since the car was down anyways I could do some other stuff to it at the same time. And I've done lots.

    3" cutout replacing the cat
some fresh ATE super blue fluid for the brakes and clutch.
New clarion deck (replacing the jdm kenwood), new front Fusion speakers. Came with kenwood speakers in the back so I left them alone.
    Remote starter/alarm.
Kevlar bellhousing blanket (I like my feet!)
Snow Performance Methanol injection system (I still need to find a tank)
Relocated Optima Redtop (in the trunk now, for some extra engine bay room and better weight distribution, + my stock battery was dead)
new Royal purple Trans/diff oil, also I am going to replace the attessa fluid with 4 liters of RP ATF.
rebuilt front differential (since I had it out anyways)
    Cleaned engine bay
Repainted intake manifold, valve covers, timing belt cover and spark plug cover in Gunmetal.
    Cleaned/rebuilt ITB's.
    cleaned/flushed the rad and intercooler.
    Relocated oil filter.
MOMO Sport 17x8's with fresh sumitomo HTR-Z Max performance Summer tires
Stock wheels with 245-45-16 R compounds for autocross/lapping days.
    Tinted taillights

umm, I think that's about it.
Probably the only GTR in canada with a super built motor and stock turbos LOL.
