    Terrh's R32 GTR Build

This is crossposted on realtimeperformance.ca, xceedspeed.com, skylineownersusa.com, gtrpwr.com and gtrcanada.com. So don't expect to see different stuff just because you're seeing it here.

I haven't done much actual building yet, in fact, as I type this, my car is buried under a foot of snow in my driveway. I'm still acquiring parts at this point. I wanted to be done by now but things just didn't work out. I'm hoping to have it on the road by mid april at the latest but we'll see how that goes. As I type this that's only 8 weeks away.

This is primarily a street car. I'm probably going to do some lapping and maybe solo 1/time attack in this car, as well as a drag day once or twice just to see how it performs. I do plan on putting a 6pt cage in it but not till next winter at the earliest, so I might get the boot at the dragstrip.

My performance goals for the car are are pretty high. It's going to kick ass and take names. I expect 1/4 mile performance in the low 10's or high 9's, 0-60 well south of 3.0 seconds (easier than it sounds), and handling figures that will embarrass pretty much anything that isn't open wheeled. All on the same setup, same tires etc. No excuses, this is an all around street car, not a trailer queen.

First page or two of this thread is mainly going to be pictures of parts, then I'll get around to installing them.

I'm not sure when this project will be "complete" but april 2012 is probably accurate. I want to have it on the road within 2 months of this post and then more will be done over this summer, with body and paint next winter.

As for what I'm changing - pretty much everything drivetrain and suspension wise. Not much is going to be stock by the time I'm done. Motor build for now, more comes later.

    Here's some before pictures:

And some of the parts I've bought so far:

    17x9 BBS LM's, 275/40/17 Falken Azenis Sport's.

    A few ricer parts :

Bottom piece is an oil cooler eliminator, gets rid of that giant pile of crap on the driver's side of the block. I plan on going with an external oil filter relocation/cooler.

    Tien Flex Coilovers:

Ebay manifolds (surprisingly decent quality, I was blown away by how nice they are):

    AEM EMS V2 Plug - n - play

    55W HID's - H4 Hi/Low for headlights and H3's for fogs.

    More coming soon.

Sorry but I would also like to know what you plan to do to run 9s. You will have to lay down some decent cash to hit those numbers.
Miss driving sooooo bad! Need to get a car on the road ASAP!

meh basic build. built head/built bottom end/twin 2871R's. Replacement drivetrain parts as they blow up.

it went 11.5 on stock turbos, I only want to knock a second and a half of of that.

yeah singles get outperformed by twins every time. This is a street car, I don't want a lagmachine. I've never seen an example of a single setup that I felt was better than appropriately sized duals.

Twin 2871R's flow 80lbs/min at 21psi. that's good enough for 800 horsepower. And with the dual ball bearings and larger cams they'll be far from laggy. I predict 1/4 mile times in the low 10's or high 9's at 140+MPH.

10 second 1/4's are "easily" obtainable in a medium modified GTR as long as you are willing to push the car to the limit and drive it like its not yours. Its a benchmark for a street car to hit the notorious 10 second mark even if its a 10.99. However to drop down 1 second from that to even a 9.99 sec 1/4 will be a costly learning experience for you by the sound of it. I have no doubt you have thought this through by the look of your turbo choice you have made a good one and Im sure the rest of your build will be just as thouroughly thought out.

What are your plans for the rest of the drivetrain, transmission ? Axles ? Diffs ? Are you going to gut the car or will this be done in street trim ?
Im pretty pumped to see this thing in action ! Im hoping 550-600whp will be enough to get me a 10 second pass this summer.

a member on here sr20gt30r has ran a 9.74 @ 141mph on what I believe to be street trip, I think he was around 650whp running 2860-5's at 23psi on race gas. It not necessarily about hp but more fine tuning your setup. If you watch his videos you see this guy can drive ! shifts so damn fast you would question if had a full sequential box in that beast !

the drivetrain is staying stock for now. How long is it going to last at this power level? likely, not very. I've got a domesticated transmission on order (T56) and that'll be a whole thread of it's own when it happens. Stock axles are real strong, if I start breaking them I'll have custom ones made, but not till then. Same goes with diffs/driveshafts for now - if/when they start to cause problems, they'll get replaced. My desire to drive the car at this point is far stronger than my willingness to wait till I have the money to upgrade things that aren't broken yet. I'm building a bulletproof engine, rest of the drivetrain (and the shell itself) will be upgraded as time and money permits. if it breaks, it'll be made so it can't break again.
