New GTR owner, No plates yet and im already modifying it :P

Wow is all i can say, i love this car, i got a 1991 Skyline GTR and what a blast, fully stock except for a 3" nismo spark plugs and what i think is a nismo airbox. So here are my questions, i searched for wtvr other info i needed but still conflicting info regarding these question....

#1 What is the stock airbox made of? Mine is metal and has a S-tune sticked on it hence when i wanna know if its aftermarket or not.

#2 Turbo dump pipes: How benefficial are these? I might do em at the same time as my downpipe/testpipe but they look like a pain to install. How long should it take for a mechanic to put those on and are they really worth iton such a light tune?

#3 Boost Control: what are you guys running. I have read remove the restrictor.....WHAT RESTRICTOR? I plan on running 10-12 psi since i heard 1 Bar is the limt and i rather be safe. What is to you daily driving safe limit on 94 octane?

#4 assuming i do run an EBC should i just remove the Boost solenoid and use to vaccuum lines as my sources?

#5 What are all you guys doing for Blow off valves? i see 500-600$ HKS SSQV kits all over but those are out of my budget to be honnest. I just want something that sounds decent and dont mind running Cheapo BOVs as long as they are decent. The flange and mounting is what throws me off completely...

I think thats all the info i need for now. Thx in advance for everyone's help

Well first, congrad's on the car man and I'm happy for ya!

Second, to answer some of your questions,

    1. The stock air boxes are plastic so if your is metal, yep it's aftermarket.

    2. Turbo extensions or dump pipes are very benifical as anything that helps free the exhaust side of the turbo increases throttle responce and more power. They are sometimes a PIA but give it a try on your own as it's only 6 (i believe) nuts/bolts. If you can't get them off then a shop with have to use a torch to heat them up. Then they'll come off easy. For that along with your testpipe and exhust, it should be between 1-2hrs AT MOST!

    3. Running 10-12psi is totally fine on 94 octane. I'm doing it now. As for the restirctor, not sure as I don't have a GTR.... ......YET!

    4. *read above answer*

    5. DO NOT RUN CHEAP BOV's!!! You own a Skyline GTR now and doing things half ass is not what you want, nor will it be good. Cheap bov's leak, cause stall out issues and sometimes compressor surge. The SSQV's are one of the best out there, they make bolt on kits for it and are sweet looking. My advice, run the recirc ones till you save up enough money. There's a thread in the GTR Tech section on installing HKS bov's you should check out, I think you'll find it very usefull.

Well that's about the most I can do for ya. Enjoy your car, take care of her and she'll take care of you.

    Cheers 8)

You don't need an SSQV.. but don't go buying some eBay brand either. Greddy R/S, Blitz Dual Drive and Sard R2D2 are all really good BOV's.

Yep this is true too. The only reason I seemed on about the SSQV is because he mentioned it in his original post.

For sure any "REAL" name brand bov will do just fine.
