    Blowin Blue...

So, I think I'm developing a bit of an issue with my 90 GTR, and hoped someone with more Skyline experience than I have (not too hard) can give me some opinions. Recently, my car started blowing blue smoke. Obivously burning oil, although not enough to show on the dipstick. Now here's the funny part...

When I start (cold) the car, it's fine. Burns quite clear, just like a healthy engine should. After 3-4 minutes, the engine revs drop, which I assume is the thermostat opening. It's at this point that I start getting blue smoke. Car still boosts fine to .95 bar just like it always has. Still pulls like a psychotic. Just smokes now. No water in the oil, or vice versa.

I'm assuming it's an oil seal or something similar in one of my turbos (an excuse to upgrade, yeah!!) but I just want to make sure before I start ripping my car apart.

So the real question is: Does the thermostat have anything to do with the oil system to the turbos?

Throw your opinions up here boys and girls... I would appreciate the input!!

    No, thermostat is coolant only.

Have you thought about doing a compression test, it would clear up the rings from being the problem.

Turbo seal. Happened with my RB20, car ran fine on cold start up, but when it got warmer, the hint of burnt oil (blue smoke) could be seen coming from the exhaust until one day it completely gave out and just began clouding the driveway (good thing it happened right before I was about to leave to go wash the car for a show the next day and not on the day that I brought the car there). Time to upgrade !

McFly: Gonna do that on saturday afternoon... got some plugs so it's a 2 for 1 lol... Hopefully not the rings, now isn't a good time for that...

Arc240: Hmmm... Sounds very similar to my situation... Thanks!!

    +1 for turbo seal.

Oil viscosity drops with increased temperature so the leak will get worse as things warm up. Cooincidence that thermostat opens / revs drop.

    She'll be right!
