    R34 engine swap

hi, i just recently bought an r34 engine for my r32 gtr, but theres a couple things that concern me about the swap. the CAS is different, do i install the r32 one? do i have to put the r32 front diff? r34's dont have ignitors, so im gonna have to install mine with my coils? wat kind of wiring will i need to do? will my tomei poncams i have in my basement for my r32 fit? im sure people have done this before, any info would be great, thx

I would use a r34 wiring harness, the front diff you will probably want to keep unless you don't have the getrag trans then then I would change the rear diff and driveshaft. And te 32 cams will not work with the r34, sell it and build around it. Put the cam money towards a set of new turboes or something like that. There is a fair amount of mods needed to be done. Check out the build thread section, someone's doing it right now

The R32 Tomei CAMs will work if you use R32 CAM Sensor. If you are going to use R32 cams, then it would be easier to use existing ECU and harnesses, and R32 CAM sensors.

If it was me I would be using the r34 cams and wiring harness, just an opinion though.

    .

If i can use my r32 cas, with my r32 tomei cams, with my r32 sard injectors, i would prefer that to keep the r34 head then rewire everything to use the r34 harness. And the front diff i beleive has different ratios then the r32 ( not sure) and if thats the case, i think i have to swap them not to damage the transfer case

well apparently the 34 head flows better than the 32 head

you'll want to keep the r32 oil pan / diff, swap the r34 wiring harness over (ignitor-less), sell the cams, and i think you'll need the R34 ecu too, not sure

I was thinking if i put the r32 cas, r32 cams (i have tomei poncams), injectors, on the r34 head, ill be able to keep my r32 ecu and harness. Wouldnt it be alot less hassle to do that? Anyways i dont have then r34 ecu and r34 is obd2...

In your case, just use the r34 engine as long block, swap in your Tomei R32 CAMS, R32 CAM sensor, R32 Oil Pan, Front Diff and use all R32 electronics. People buy R34 NUR long blocks all the time for their R32s.

Don't cheap out man seriously grab the r34 wiring harness and ecu! Sell the cams and if your that set on cams which once you hear the r34 you'll be fine with the way it sounds then that money can go towards doing it properly.

A good reason to keep the r34 cams and cas is because of the better flow and ultimately the great sound of the motor. But also look at it from this angle... If I come to buy your car and you say there is a 34 Gtr motor in there, what is one way to tell the difference, cas. There are not many other things that you can tell the difference with. The parts are readily available to do it right so don't hesitate. It's only a few more dollars off the build

I can't really get your point of asking him to sell his Tomei CAMS and keep the stock R34 CAMs. So, you do not think the Tomei R32 Poncam is going to smoke the stock R34 CAM and sounds even better?

Furthermore, he does not need to spend a dime (if he can handle wrenches himself) to swap in the R34 engine if he uses existing R32 harness, sensors, ECU, pans, diff and tomei cams, while having the option of doing all those fancy (may not even be better )things at later time. I do not consider doing things this way is cheap, but a wise and money well saved way to build his GTR reliably.

    That's just my 2 cent.
