Highest rpm for the RB26 block?

    Hello,

I'm new to the forum and NOT a troll! I used the search function and can't seem to find any posts or talk about how high you can rev these motors. I googled a bit and see cranks and components made to rev to 10k but, does anyone do it? Is there anyone that knows of a 12k RB26 bottom end?

If there are motors out there that rev this high, What I'm really looking for is to find out is, what type or brand of main bearings they use??

    thanks,
    D

i doubt you will find anyone on here that revs past 9k. barley anyone raps past 8k. i have a fully built bottom end and my tuner was not comfortable reving past 8k. do you really need to hit 12k?

Here is the thing, I am building a non Nissan motor but, very interested in the RB's design and capabilities. The motor I am building uses a crankshaft that is roughly the same length, weight(actually much lighter in race trim) and handles the same amount of hp. It handles the same displacement but, is only a 4 cylinder vrs 6 cylinder.

All that being said, I am looking to maybe use the RB26's main bearings, journal/block design, etc.. Maybe not all of it but a good portion of the design. The only thing I am unsure of is if it can handle high rpms.

For example, If someone here said yes, people use "xyx" brand bearings and rev to 12k all the time, I would continue to go down that path. Seems the Honda's and Mitsu's can rev very high with whatever brand bearing they can find. I considered those designs too but, again, their over all designs are much different that of the RB or my motor.

I took my stock RB26 past 10,000rpm. Hell yeah.

Actually I figured out that was NOT the reason. The knock came from oil deprivation...from an oil tube being loose. I really don't think it was the high rpm. Obviously that didn't help though.

Lol, ya that can't be a good thing to take the engine past that rpm but with rb engines I wouldn't trust it! Oil starvation is number one problem with them

From what I can remember, they reved to 11600rpm? in Australia with this car -

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8kCsDDUZpA

Search using "Exvitermini" (used to be the name of their website that had specs of engine before it was shutdown).

Also I think Apexi with their RB26 powered R33GTR dragcar reved to 11000rpm.

This person is a knowledgeable RB person in USA and I think used to work for Apexi USA, XS Engineering -

With high reving EVO or RB type engines, this place in Australia can make for you the reinforced block with better cradle design you need and probably answer your bearing questions -

With stock RB block you can make a stronger custom cradle design for higher hp, rpm applications -

Race bearings used on some RB engines are made by ACL -

    http://www.aclperformance.com.au/index.html

Nismo bearings have a coating that helps with longevity of bearing -

This can be done by Calico Coatings -

Skym, thank you for all the links! I have been looking around for the last few days and kinda came up with what you are all kinda saying here. I love the RB design and for sure it can make big power but, doesn't seem that it likes to rev easy.

I am going to contact ACL and talk to them about the bearings. Like I said, I am building another motor but, it will be similar to the RB minus two cylinders. The rod ratio is great and it will rev so, I need some bearings to match. I also looked into Honda stuff but, they have very short cranks that won't flex as much as a longer one so, Honda is out.

I will let you all know as things progress. Where is a good place to pick up a bare block/girdle in the States? What do they cost?
