Thumbs up What oil is best for Garret 2860-5's?

Hey everyone, just got my new 2860-5's today, and I was talking to my buddy who also has these installed on his GTR and he strongly recommends not using 10w30 and he recommends 15w50. Thoughts? I curreently use Amsoil Dominator 10w30. Thanks

If this has already been asked by somone else please direct me, couldnt find anything when I searched

You choose oil based on oiltemps (cst rating at oiltemps engine reaches), oilpressure (there's recommended oil pressure at different rpm in engine manual). This is important as turbo shares the same oil as engine and high oiltemps break down the oil, damage turbo.

7.5w30 is for stock engine, stock turbo with stock clearances and as clearances widen due to wear and tear you change oil to match. From what I understand, with basic breathing mods (intake, exhaust) and road use, oiltemps can rise close to the max (100 degrees C) which is the limit for w30 before it breaks down and becomes a problem (excessive engine wear). The solution is using a w40 which can go 100 degrees C and slightly over. If on racetrack with constant 100-120 degrees C a w50 is used that has close to the same cst rating as w30 at 100 degrees C. If choose correct oil you get smoother idle, engine revs quicker, seems like it has more hp (small amount).

The first number (15w) is cold start.

Look at the CST rating for w30, etc at 100 degrees C -

You need the MOST expensive oil you can find, like Motul! Those are super special turbos. Be careful, don't over rev them or boost too hard, they have exotic metal wheels that will cost more than the turbos to replace. They didn't tell you this?

    haha.

I use 0-30 in winter and 10-30 or 5-30 (amsoil european car) in summer depending on availability. Turbos are all the same when using the same bearings. I have the same turbos.

IMO Royal Purple 10w40. I've run 10w30, 10w40, 15w40 and my best results have been 10w40 hands down.

Oh geeze, I was always told to avoid royal purple at all costs haha. The curse of forums: mixed messages from everyone :P

Does Amsoil have a good 15w50 race oil? Ive used amsoil for years and never had an issue with them. Im also a dealer so its much more affordable for me.

Also, anyone selling or know of anything selling oil feeds lines for twins? Perhaps have any specs of what I need? I know I need 3AN but I dont know about fitting or length. Any help is much appreciated. Perhaps this has already been asked before?

Nah i run royal purple in all my vehicles in diffs, trans, engine everything. Awesome stuff. Everything i've put it in noticed engine runs smoother, less valve train noise, and pulling magnetic drain plugs come out almost perfectly clean every time.

All my oil lines i made from scratch using russel lines and fittings

Including your engine oil as well though? The engine and turbos share the same oil, correct?
