N1 vs OEM oil pump relief spring and gears

well as my parts collection for rebuilding my engine is coming to a close, i am stuck on an oil pump, in particular i am between an OEM or N1 with reimax gears, but firstly i would like to know the actual difference between an N1 and OEM housing

    mainly: 1. the relief spring
2 . whether or not the N1 gears have the same O.D. as the OEM gears as i have the OEM housing

does the relief spring have the same spring rate in each i.e ( N/m) or is it just compressed more?

and will n1 gear fit in an oem housing?

    Thanks, Cory

i believe the N1 gear O.D is smaller compared to OEM so the gears itself isn't interchangeable

The spring is a tad stiffer in the N1 (wire is actually thicker), the gears are smaller (a good thing if you are planning to rev the piss out of an RB), there is one extra backing plate retaining bolt and the passages are much larger than stock. You don't want to be going down the road of swaping out stock gears for stock gears anyway, they suck. Reimax gears are much, much stronger and forgiving than the stock ones, they will bend a little when abused instead of shattering into tiny little pieces.

If I had the choice and was starting from scratch I would do the N1 with Reimax gears. 90% as good as an overpriced aftermarket pump for 1/3 the cost.

ahh yeah, the plan was to use the oem housing if the N1 reimax gears would fit into it, then just shim the spring to a point where the force exerted by the spring was approximately the same, oh well.

i would hate to buy a brand new N1 pump when i only need the housing, know anyone that had theirs blow up?

ya reimax makes 2 gears an 81mm for the old N1 pumps and oem. They also have a 77mm i believe is the smaller size of the majority of the n1 pumps
