Advan gold center cap ring

Hello everyone,

So i went to get some new tires installed today at Fountain tire today and im not very pleased to say the least.

The guy putting the new tires on claimed the center caps on my advans were too hard to get off so he had to use a wrench. I told him that i put them on with my hands and there was no way they needed to be taken off with a wrench.

Anyways this is what my one center cap ring looks like now:



When it was half this bad (the guy was trying to take it off again because it was stuck on at this point) He was like "See i don't wanna ruin it anymore"...I just told him it's ruined enough already we just need to get it off at this point.

The threads look like this now, it's hard to tell but the majority are just flat and the threads on the rim aren't much better. The only defined threads left are at the bottom. the shiny part is all stripped threads.


What I want to do is replace this center cap ring and then take it to a machine shop and see if they can match the threads and make new ones on the rim. and then bill fountain tire for both the ring and the machine shop work...

My question is where would I be able to grab one of these rings? Can't seem to find anything on ebay or google so far.

Talked to some other local car guys today, and they told me to Demand they replace the full rim because the threads are stripped on rim itself, and if the shot refuses to take them to small claims.

This is why you use a rubber strap grip wrench, not a plumber's wrench..../facepalm

I worked at kal tire and ran into a prob like this before. The tire guy should have at least put "tape" of some kind of protection on the center cap FIRST.

The threads on some of those wheels corrode and tear up threads when being installed/removed, common occurrence. If there wasn't any signs of crossion on the wheel or nut I would demand they reimburse you for the nut and or rim. If you can't find any eidence of this, they won't give you any money/give a poop, and it would be a waist of time to take them to claims court. Sorry dude, it sucks. I know.


And my I suggest, to apply any type of anti-crossion compound (LPS 3 works awesome) or any grease to ensure this doesnt happen to your other wheels

alright, good to know there was some wear before hand, but it doesn't excuse the fact that the ring is completely mangled. and it's not like i can just buy a new ring and put it on because the threads of rim itself are stripped.
