Moving to Ontario. What options are available???

My roommate was just accepted into Western for some business program, and essentilly has a month to move his whole life from BC (victoria), to where ever western is located (I dont know the actual area).

Right now, his only option is to rent a U-haul truck, load his stuff up, and drive over. This is also a seriously costly adventure (after rental and gas your looking at $4000) and obviously one he would like to avoid if there were a better alternative. That being said, I know some of you guys must have made this trip! What did you guys do? Sell off all your things and start fresh? U-haul it? Find a private shipping trucker/ company that would move it for you?

Any and all ideas are welcome at this point!

    Cheers

Seriously I would sell off everything and start new. Say he rents a u haul and drives down and has the same old beat up stuff and is minus four thou. Now if he sells it off he could find great stuff locally and spend the 4000$ on other stuff. I would suggest selling it off and purchase new for the new start.
Miss driving sooooo bad! Need to get a car on the road ASAP!

It's kind of an odd situation lol. I don't want to divulge all his info, but due to family (or lack there of) circumstances, he is going to have a house for sale here in victoria pretty soon and will be using the funds to pay for his tuition and a new house he can rent out for the 2 remaining years of his program... which can be semi-furnished with the things that were left to him...
So pretty much everything of value will be going with him (bed, dresser, kitchen items, dining room set, living room items, etc.), and everything else will be left behind/ sold.

U-haul that stuff. I just did about 1300 miles one way with a 5x8 uhaul for $180. The big ones are like double that, and the trucks are still under $1k
I've been brushing my teeth with jack but it's resulted in terrible amounts of tooth decay.

Try Uship.com pretty cool website where you can bid on free space on long haul trucks that have empty space.

Prices are dirty cheap cause they are going there anyway just want more piggy backs.

Hahaha. Condoms and alcohol are like the new bouquet of flowers!
Anyways, it looks like he is going to be moving via a U-haul truck. Apparently his gf has decided to move with him (GTA i believe) so that they can be closer together, and that being said, need room for both of their things.

personally, I'm with you doc! Sell off all my ****, get a dorm and just load up on texas mickeys :P.
