    off road lighting help (wiring)

I have 2 sets of Rigid Dually 2x2 led lights that i have mounted on the truck. i have them all running to a switch on the dash and to the aux power so i never accidentally leave them on but what I'm wondering is if someone could help me with wiring it up so that all 4 will turn on with the switch at any time (unless truck is off) and so that when i turn on my high beams, only 2 of them will turn on (my high beam really sucks...)

What I'm thinking is if i ran a relay with its own power to one set of the lights and connected the trigger to my high beam switch so when the lights are off, the 2 will turn on with my high beams. Whats confusing me though is that since all 4 lights are run to 1 switch (all 4 power wires are touching at the switch) if i ran the relay to the 2 lights, all 4 would turn on?

So my next question is if i ran a regular relay to one set with its own power and then ran a reversed relay to the other set running through the power wire already connected to them with the high beam as the trigger for both relays, when i hit my high beams it should connect the 1 circuit to a set of lights turning them on but disconnect the second set of lights since the relay is reversed and run through the power (or ground) off the lights? And then if i ran a 5th power wire off the switch to another reversed relay connected to the trigger wire for the other reversed relay, when i hit the switch with my high beams on it should essentially counter the first reversed relay causing all 4 lights to be turned on while the high beams are on? I know, this sounds confusing but hopefully someone understand this!

If anyone could confirm that the first method will not work but the second method will work it would be aprecaited! or if someone could tell me a better/simpler way of wiring this (i do not want to run a second switch) Thanks!

I understand what you are trying to accomplish and think I have a simpler solution. Use one relay for each set of lights (hook pin 30 to battery+ on each relay hook the pin 87's to each set of lights on each relay and ground both pin 86's) now you are left with the 85 trigger on each relay run the wire from your All Lamp Switch to one of the relays then run a jumper to the second relay pin85 but install a diode in the jumper ,then run a wire from your high beams also thru a diode to pin 85 of the second relay as a diode is an "electrical one way valve" when you turn on your high beams only one set of lights will go on since the power cannot flow back thru the diode to the second relay. The diode in the high beam trigger will stop power from feeding back to your regular high beams or circuitry when the All Lights Switch is turned on, Diodes are cheap and easily available , hope this helps.

Never thought of using diodes! i have a ton of small electronic diodes for things like xbox's and such 1N4148 diodes, these are probably too small and would burn out so ill get some automotive ones instead lol but i definitely understand what you are saying and it makes complete sense that it would work. it took me a second to understand the diode in the highbeam trigger wire but now i think i understand, without the diode in the highbeam trigger wire my highbeams would also turn on with the switch. But yes that will work and does eliminate one relay, and has no need for reversed relays this way. Thank you!

Edit: also just thought, if i used only one relay for the set of lights i want turned on with my high beam i could just do that then put 2 diodes on those lights between the switch and where i splice in the relay then the switch would always control all 4 and my high beam would control the 2. I think that would work and be by far the simplest way of doing this.
