Need advice dealing with insurance companey (new rims fund)

I haven't ever made an insurance claim before or anything like that so just lookin for some advice story as follows =

A vac truck backed into my winter beater parked on the street, i went got two estimates lower ones $1400ish. Ive never really talked one of their insurance agents directly since sending the estimates just received and sent voice messeges. They said for me to just get it done at the cheaper body shop.

~My question is Can i just ask for a settlement of the same price as the repairs or close to? Is it my right to do so??

Basically i would rather have the money because i don't really care what the beater looks like and i would much rather put the money towards my skyline. I would also think it would it would be cheaper for them because they wouldn't have to get me a rental which i would put 1000kms in the week.

    thanks for any advise

You could ask for a settlement from the guy who backed into your car, that way neither of you have to deal with the insurance companies.

I don't think an insurance broker would just give you cash instead of paying for the car being fixed if that's what your asking.

It was a company vehicle and they're just letting the insurance company deal with it. So yes i was hoping to get a check from the insurance company. Can this be done?

Negative, the vehicle is insured, not your wallet.

    Wouldn't it be nice though?

Edit: it's a different story if the vehicle is written off
    Because race car.

A guy backed into my beater causing around $1500 of damage. Since hes from the states though his insurance company has no choice but to send me a cheque. So its not getting written off or fixed i guess in a way i got lucky.

Im still gonna try askin if a settlement is less than the estimate why wouldn't they. They are a business and if it saves them a couple hundred why not.

In theory if a guy went to a shady bodyshop and got some work done on another vehicle that had damage from a hit and run and got them to send the bill with the beater name on it none would be the wiser, but this would be highly illegal and inmoral even if it was balancing out the universe fixing a hit and run vehicle. but it'd probably to late anaway . . . .
