    Need Advice. Please

Planning to take this 1992 Nissan Skyline GTS-T for a pre-purchase inspection/Test Drive. Owner is asking $7500 O.B.O

    http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/cto/785062064.html

He imported it end of march with a help of a friend in japan. It has 101,000 km's. It has been in his garage since then only insured for 4 days in between then and now. He says he bought it to begin a project but has not had the time to do that and now wants to sell it. Ive got plans with him to insure it for thursday to take it in for an inspection and test drive. He says hes has it all DOT approved and its totally legal. From what i know you can put temporary insurance on any vehicle, even if it might not be insurable for an extended amount of time.

My own pictures are below, sorry totally forgot to take pictures of the outside. i was too busy lookin at the engine and interior. Please give me any advice as this will be my first Skyline and i want it to be the best. By the way if any of you guys recommend a good shop to do the inspection please let me know. Also a good Mechanic in the Surrey area that can do any repairs that im unable to do or my grandpa can't.

Looks normal for the kilometres travelled. The flaking protective coating on the steering wheel is common at those km. Probably been under the sun alot in Japan.

In another 9,000kms, the cambelt, waterpump, auxiliary belts, idler, tensioner bearings, etc need to be done. Usually done at 110,000kms.

Also the 100,000km service is needed, so change all of the fluids including powersteering, gearbox, diffhead, etc and change sparkplugs, fuelfilter, etc.

I would check the AFM for dirt, as some foam airfilters don't filter the incoming air properly, so dust could form inside the intake pipe that's behind AFM. Also the dust can be sucked into turbo and damage the compressor wheel.

If you do buy that car, clean the intake pipe, clean AFM and check for wear on edges of compressor wheel on turbo. Then replace podfilter with a Apexi podfilter.

Should those be replaced as needed or replaced them all just to be safe? Anyone know an estimate on the parts possibly?

Good thing i work at a lube center 25% discount i can get all the fluids done there. Hopefully the inspection comes out clean.

Does anyone have thier opinion on what i should offer him? Front fender has a skuff from shipping. I was thinking maybe offering him $7000 with taxes included, sounds reasonable considering its been for sale fo about 3 months.

Don't quote me on this -

As you probably already know, changing fluids is the most important thing to do after buying a car without service history. Sometimes auxiliary belts need to be changed. Auxiliary belts are changed every 20,000km and I think adjusted every 10,000km.

Cheaper labour wise to do it all in one go (cambelt, waterpump, etc). But that's 9,000km down the road. I'm just letting you know that it needs to be done if it hasn't been done already. Should be able to buy a timing belt kit (waterpump, tensioner bearing, idler bearing, cambelt).

check the trunk for rust (under the carpet, spare tire well etc), pop open the side panels in the trunk and stick your hand down there, if the trunk leaks, or did leak you might find surprises. Theres also rubber bungs down each fender if they're not sealed properly water/sand/salt can get in and rot the rear fenders from the inside out.

Been for sale for 3 months. chances are others have put it through inspection and found something they don't like.

fyi, timing belt will cost you a fair penny unless you're doing the work yourself.

These cars should sell like hotcakes in the summer lol.

If it has any clear coat peel expect it to keep peeling. Mine had 2 little spots of it when I bought it and now it looks rediculous. Bad batch of clear maybe..

Only paint damage is on the trunk, a blemmish or i dont know what you would call it because of the extended time the N spent on there.

the one question i would like answered is. Does the car have to be legal to put a days insurance on it? Because that is all hes put on it. I dont wanna get screwed when i buy it and cant insure it more than a day becuase it isnt fully registured and legal. He only has the japanese Vin ( HCR32 281902 ) from doing research on this forum i thought these cars had to get re-vinned with BC VIN numbers.

Now the main question is what would you guys pay for it?

I was thinking $6800 with taxes because of its extended time on craigslist, he has also offered to lower the price if we finish the sale soon because his got family **** to do all next week. That also depends on the inspection tomorrow. If everything checks out, which i hope. And i can fully insure it, i plan on going in tomorrow before the inspection and pretend i would be insuring the car. Then i gotta say thats a bargin. Considering he hasnt driven it for more than 4 times.

How easy would it be to get it to pass?
