Car died on 401 this morning
I was on my way to work this morning in traffic on the 401. The rev's dropped and the car died with all lights coming on. I pulled over and looked under the hood everything looked fine.
After restarting the car I had to keep my foot into the accelerator to keep rev's from dropping. I managed to get the car off the highway and was about to pull over when a burning rubber smell started coming through the vents. I quickly turned off the climate control and opened the window, the car ran fine after that.
I'm thinking the AC compressor probably ceased up. Any other ideas? If it is the AC compressor does anyone know what the compatible one is?
Thanks

how much battery power did you have left? i find it hard to beleive that the a/c compressor would stop the car, the alternator could have seized or on its way out. best to check the belts for wear.

If it was the alternator why would the car run well with the Climate control off.
My thought was the AC compressor would disengage when the climate control is off and therefore no load an that belt.

My car would barely accelerate at all when I still had my AC belt. The pump was seized, and since the car decides to always use the AC if the climate control is on (i guess to remove moisture from the air?), it sapped what felt like 90% of the engines power. If I disengaged the clutch it would stall. Took the belt off the AC pump, runs like a charm. Try that. If it doesn't work, its easy to put it on and take it off

Car ran fine all the way home last night with the climate control off. I'll have to take a closer look at what is going on this weekend. It's Maxima for the rest of the week as I need AC in this heat.
