    swap done ... nearly!!

ok .. over the past few days i grunted me way into the n/a to turbo club, and in the afternoon today the car came to life idles alright but when i try to throttle it up i get power past id say 3 grand .. and when i screw around with the intake piping the car wants to die .. (im assuming theres a leak .. and thats what is causing the problem .. anyone care to confirm ??).. a friend and i worked out a few other kinks, (iene shot coil pack, ticking injector) gonna get a new intake tommarow hopefully and see if that makes a difference wish me luck

as well i checked out other pissibilities charge piping, maf, ect .. none seemed to bewrong

as for aftermarked parts... an fmic kit thanks to Berard_Kassis wich fit with little modification and allowed me to keep my fogs, apexi boost guage and plx wideband AFR guage , greddy turbo timer , and turbosmart supersonic bov(not installed yet waiting for adaptor plate)

lastly a gtr hood i recieved from greyhound (A$$#&!@$), that was in mint condition when it left its destination is now nearly written off ..now are the gtr hoods east to fix .. (whats wrong: all four corners are bent , paint is chipping all over) obviously i cant paint it ,other then flat black, but is it ok to bang it back iinto shape of am i gonna do more harm then good

anyway just wanted to do a show and tell and ask some questions http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2611803/1

The hood is toast, an experienced body guy might be able to fix it but unlikely, Aluminum is almost impossible to straighten out.

As for the issue, can you rev to redline fast? , slow?, under load? when is the issue?

As well what are your coilpacks reading? Did you clean your maf or have access to another one to test?

And lastly check all your clamps and make sure there all nice and tight, as well as check the welds on your pipes/intercooler to be sure no air is leaking out.

Hey man, sounds like you are on the way! I had a similar problem when I did my swap and found it to be a vac line that was missed on the rebuild, after solving that problem I've put at least 1500km on it with no issues. The only thing I miss about the N/A engine is the low end torque that disappears in the turbo engine. Hope everything works out for ya, and welcome to the "club" ha ha

aluminum sucks to work on man.. if you have a torch at your disposal get out your hammer. hammer into place and get a lead or tin stick(body man tool) heat up the metal with torch (BE CAREFUL aluminum is a **** and will go solid to liquid quick) to heat up and lead surface (heat metal.. take away heat then use the lead stick like a pen over bumpy bits) to build up over the bumps then u can just sand away excess. if you can do this it will save u body shop $$.

Also mind you Aluminum has the tendency to weaken after heating (needs annealing for structural revival). Sucks about the hood, any way to get insurance?

edit: It also has a short fatigue life compared to steel. Too much adjustment (bending back and forth) will cause fracture.
