Ok well I installed a FMIC for my 4 door GTS-T and I took some pics of my little 3 day project so I thought I'd just start my own little project thread.
So far my list of "upgrades" are pretty simple just for everyday use.
NGK Plugs.
Apex-i Box type air Filter.
New sound system for clear listening, all Panasonic, 4 channel 50 watt Deck. 4 Speakers.
Front 2 4x6 150 watt each, rears are 6.5 250 watt.
The car. 1989 Nissan Skyline GTS-T. Made in Dec 1989. #68.
When I first got the car.
The up-to-date shots!
And of course my Autobahn 88 FMIC.
FMIC Woes thread.
This is it out of the box yay.
The first steps i took were of course, take off the front bumper, and then dig into the lights, take those badboys out, set them aside.
I then noticed I had alot to take out before i could actaully put the core in ... after nearly 2 hours of trying to figure out what to do I got the hood latch, front retracable lip, horns, air box, all the side intercooler, all the tubing out ... uhhgg that took me litterally a day of doing so by myself and it was the first time I ever did it. After some pizza, drinks and some motivation from my neighbours who watched me work I did it.
That was day one.
Day two started off with good spirits. But were quickly crushed after I found out I need to cut a hole on the drivers side, I needed to use old rubber couplings and tubing to suit my needs for the new tubing, and I didn't need to cut any of the front bumper support to fit the core, anyways long story short I figured it out and I got the core in (Fig A), started the hole on the drivers side, and got nearly all the "air in" tubing up. I had to cut away a small little dividing metal bit from the old intercooler (Fig B) to allow the Autobahn intercooler tubing to fit.
Fig A:
Fig B:
So end of day 2 I got alot done, and the essential driver side hole was started.
Day three well. This was the best day, I got the hole cut. (Yes I know I'm kicking myself over this too I didn't take pictures of it) but anyways, it was a crap job haha, I used a drill and drilled like 50 little holes then went in there with some plyers and ripped it out, then smoothed the edges, put some rust paint, rust proofing, and then lined the edge with some wire insolation haha. But it works.
I also had to cut the return pipe from the core to the pipe that goes over the rad. (Fig C) and then use a exsisting rubbing coupling to allow bending, a hack saw did the trick.
Fig C:
Anyways I got it all in, clamped all the tubing down, took her for a spin, and the boost seems to all be there. Still gonna take it to a mechanic to get it checked out tho as I don't know much about boost and forced air systems.
Had to do some major body work to the bumper, pretty much making it look like a new bumper.
Finished product.
Ok now for my problems that I hope some people can help me out with.
Although all the power seems to be there, and when I hammer it non of the pipes blow out, but I get this wierd noise, it sounds like someone it letting air out of a baloon really slowly, it happens around 2800- 3000RPM around my max boost, and it sounds like air is being sucked in alot faster or it just makes more noise then it did. Is this normal?
******And some important note with this Autobahn FMIC. ******
If you are planning on using the stock rubbing tubing and couplings they will NOT fit over the 3 inche tubing that came wth the FMIC, there is a little flange over the end of each tube and it's extremly hard to get this inside the rubbing bits.
So what I did was just take like a dremmel tool or something like that and shaved off or "bored" the inside of the rubber tubing to alloy the flange to fit in. It's pretty easy and you don't need to cut the flange off the nice aluminum tubes.
Don't know if you can see it but I had to do it on this one.

Seibon CF hood.
Just got it a couple days ago and waiting on some new hood hinges. This is just a rough fit.
