    Southie Project Part 2

    Well,

Time to start another build thread i guess. After 4 months of downtime rebuilding my damn motor....then only driving it 10k....It blew again. This time spinning the Number 1 rod bearing.

So out the motor came, and off to the machine shop for the bad news.

    Verdict:

-All six pistons are fried, Top ring groove had .090 clearance. Spec is max .073

    - Crankshaft was quite bad on all bearing surfaces, requires complete grind.

    - Block was over heating on the exhaust side of the cylinders, meaning if you look at the top of the block around the cylinders, its discoloured on the exhaust side.

So, Went to nissan on friday and ordered 1.0 Oversize pistons, rings, and .50 undersize rod and main bearings.

Block is being decked .015, pistons oversized, and crankshaft being made good again.

Stay Tuned for hopfully big changes by summer time..........

Heres the car the week i purchased it 2 years ago, BONE STOCK

i hope you have better luck this time on the build.
did you ever find out the cause for the spun bearing
the pistons and the overheating on the exh side
understeer -is when you go off the road and see the tree that kills you
oversteer-is when you go off the road backwards and dont see the tree that kills you

umm well the machinist, said that the heating on the block was farily common on turbo applications, and the bearing...well that was prolly just my own fault for not checking proper clearances when i rebuilt the first time.

The first rebuild was sort of a slap together rush job...this time around im not screwing around at all. heck, im even replacing the oil pickup, becuase its full of bearing material...i could try to clean it, but if i miss even 1 little chunk, it could break through, and run threw the system and reap havoc again!

    I like, shiny.

But be careful with those types of split dumppipes, as some have reported boost spikes. One person switched to the 1 pipe type of dumppipe and he said it helped to remove boost spike problem.
