    Japaneseimports.ca RB25 Swap

Dennis (aka hermitdragon) and I, have completed a RB25 swap on a customers car, it was the first RB25 swap we had done and apart from a few minor things the swap was fairly smooth.

The RB25 compession tested and ready to drop in

The engine bay being prepped for the new engine

    Dennis unaware and concentrating :P

    He finally see's the camera

On its way in.. most of the hard work is done now..

The engine completely in just waiting for the tranny to get bolted back

I will get some final pics as soon as our customer comes back.. once it was done he left, happy to drive his car again. 8)

The complete swap was done in 3 days, we ran into a few things that slowed us down but we've got it figured out now

yes we left in the RB20 ECU and wireing harness, the only modification was to the injectors as the side feed uses different plugs.

Deleted the VCT then, or just left it in there? Should switch to non vct cams, will make more power....

When we hook up next, make sure to fill me in on the juicy details. That was a good pic of Dennis concentrating too .

Whats better than a Skyline with Vtec, this way when you beat some domestics you can tell them its because you have vtec. ahaha

I dont know exactly how the VCT works on th rb25's, maybe it just varies the timing of the valves by rotating the intake only cam shaft and valve lift and duration are not altered, but i am sure its somewhat similar to the honda vtec setup (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) except for the lift aspect, basically it opens the valves nice and wide at high RPMs, but open them not as much at low RPMs. So now you have a engine with smooth operation at low RPMs, and high power output at high RPMs by having different lobes on the cams activated by oil pressure and a vtec switch, so a simple vafc with inputs fuel and timing is in essence what you need. Normal vtec controllers are crap because all it does it inputs timing but doesnt look at fuel and God knows that if you have a lighter you are tring to spark that is out of fluid will not result in a flame, same goes for your engine.

I say keep it VCT and work things out to get it running well, you will make more power over the non vct cams if you cn get it working properly, lots of info on the guys running the rb25DET heads on the rb30 bottom ends. I believe the site is

RB25 bolts right in. Basically it's all wiring (which there really isnt that much of), nothing else has to be modified.

ive thought about this before, some people might laugh at me, i dont have much insight to stuff like this but, maybe its possible to just get 1 cam? and leave the intake cam oem and get an aftermarket cam for the exhaust valves, that one there isnt as much stress on the pistons?
